My D250 1991. 5 master cylinder lid gasket leaks slightly... more like seeps. I've wiped it off and such... but I think a new one is in order.

However the local Napa (they are good and know trucks) cannot find the proper gasket. I have the large rectangular master cylinder but all parts cross references show a gasket for a round screw on lid. I double checked Advance and AutoZone. Same result.

If I ask for a rebuilt MS... they bring one out exactly like mine... with a new gasket on it like the one I need. But if they try and get just the gasket... wrong one keeps showing up.

Anybody have a part number or source? My Napa has tried all routes and called many folks... all ending up with no real answer. Why is this so difficult to get? Thanks!!

Been there. My school bus parts supplier sez no (local NAPA)

I have found one at a Big A in Floyd VA. You could drive there or have Tugboat buy ya one and mail it too you.

Sorry, no part number.

i got mine right from the dealer. comes with a new steal strap too. i replaced mine, the sob still leaks!!! its on there tighter than its ever been too. i might have some pitting in the metal around the top which may be causing it. but if you want the dodge part # i can get it for you, or if you dont have a dodge dealer within driving distance i can get one for you here and mail it to you, as long as your willing to pay for it and the postage.

Sorry to be bearing bad news, but the new mc I installed is leaking and has removed some of the paint I applied.

So it goes.

Yeah, it's Car Quest. Same thing. You say Potahto, I say Potato. LOL

I got a Dodge/Mopar dealership about 10 blocks away. But I never check there. Guess maybe I should. :) Thanks for the help.

I took my old gasket today and carefully scraped it with a razor. There was an orange (rust?) film on it. I also polished the rim of the Mcyl. Working from the inside out to keep junk outta the fluid. Then I pulled out what fluid I could from the Mcyl and refilled with clean just to be sure.

Seems to not be leaking now. At least its still dry, yet rusty looking. I'll still check Mopar Parts. The dealership is one of those old time ones thats been around since the 30's. They probably have one in a dusty box. I remember a few years ago they found 6 Hemis (not the 426's) still in the wood crates laying around in a storage building they owned. They were destined for Desoto cars if I remember correctly. They were auctioned off locally. Oh well.

what if you clean and polish the lip of the MC and apply a thin layer of like ultra copper permatex down, and spread it out flat with your finger. Let it set up for a few hours then put the lid back on. It won't leak after that, iv'e dont that on a few chebbies.

I figgured there HAD to be a trick that the car show guys have. They won't let you in to the club if you'd have a MC with fluid around the top, let alone dripping off the bottom.

I just drive mine and wipe it off every three thousand miles.
