3 people check into a hotel room and the fee is $30 dollars so they each contribute $10. The clerk later realizes he overcharged them by $5, he sends the bellboy up to return the money to them. Since they can not split $5 three ways they each take $1 and give the bellboy a $2 tip.

Now the room only cost them each $9 and there are 3 of them that is $27 and the bellboy got $2

Where did the last dollar go??????????

Happy ciphering. :)

Two transactions here. A $30 Charge and a $5 refund. If you don't use fractions or cents, it is not possible to split $25 3 ways. Ergo, the refuned was a separate transaction and everything balancec that way.

Or, the original statement was that the room was $30. With no reason given, ther wa not an overcharge, and, the refund should not have been made.

It didn't go anywhere. The 3 guests received a refund of $3 on the initial 30 that they paid which is a total of $27 paid to the hotel. The actual fee for the room was $25 and the other $2 went to the bellboy.

Here's one I was told as a boy. In Biblical Times a father had 3 sons and he had 17 camels so he decided to leave to the 3 sons to the value represented by their labor to him. Of the 17 camels he divided them to 1/2 of the herd to the eldest, 1/3 to the next and 1/9 to the youngest, they were successfully divided as his instructions without butchering, all animals intact. (hard but very easy) Was told at Sunday school class to illustrate there are better ways to resolve conflicts than force.

:-laf:-laf Yah... Speaking of..... An upgrade is in the works for dual Xeon X5470. That should kick things up an order of magnitude or six. :D

Here's one that's been around a while... ...

There are 5 houses each with a different color. Each owner has a unique heritage, drinks a certain type of beverage, smokes a certain brand of cigarette, and keeps a certain variety of pet.

The Brit lives in the red house.

The Swede keeps dogs as pets.

The Dane drinks tea.

Looking from the front, the green house is just to the left of the white house.

The green house's owner drinks coffee.

The person who smokes Pall Malls raises birds.

The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill.

The man living in the center house drinks milk.

The Norwegian lives in the leftmost house.

The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.

The man who keeps a horse lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.

The owner who smokes Bluemasters also drinks beer.

The German smokes Prince.

The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.

The man who smokes Blends has a neighbor who drinks water.

Who owns the pet fish?

These statements cannot all be true. I killed the fish. :-laf

Kind of an easy one, but it still stumps some people.

I have two coins, both American currency that equal 30 cents. One of them is not a nickel. What are they?

I think I got it, I'll try to scan the proof and post it, but I'm pretty sure he lives in the green house. :-laf Took a lot longer than I thought it would.

Pretty crappy scan, but I am somewhat amazed I even got it to work. Is the answer correct?

The one with the 17 camels, his neighbor lent him one camel thus able to use fractions, 1/2 = 9, 1/3 = 6, 1/9 = 2 all receive alloted share, neighbor has camel returned to him, and they all lived happy ever after, (so I'm told). not sure if it was Soloman who solved that one, or probably a budding Trial Lawyer.
