Does aonyone know if someone makes a rubber or carpet matt for the top of the fold flat steel rear? I love the fold flat but the dog slides around on it like mad. I'd love to have some thin rubber coating or carpet matt that maybe just had elastic on the corners to hold it on and I'm sure the Mutt would apprecieate it too .

Thanks!;)

I'm having the same issue with my fold out floor and dog. There are a couple of guys that mentioned in a different thread that they had the floor sprayed with Line-X.

I've been using the black plastic drawer liner that's usually kept in the tool section at Wal-Mart.

It comes in a roll that has enough extra to provide a non-skid pad for the seatback/console and another for the "tray" area above the glove box.

There's enough room behind (not under) the folded floor to store the roll when it's not needed.

The wife and I made a "hammock" for our dog back there. It is made of heavy canvas and covers the back of the front seats and the floor and all the way up the folded up back seats. We put 1. 5" of foam under the hammock and put a zipper on it so we could take the foam out and wash it. It attaches to the front seats with brass grommets that the headrests go through. It attaches to the back seats via pockets that go over the tops of the folded up seats. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Disclaimer:

The truck is due for a cleaning.

I chose to use a light colored canvas because I thought it would hide the white dog hair better. -Stupid move. It shows the dirt more than I would have imagined. I would definately go with black next time. I might do another one just for that reason.

Here's the first one:

This one shows the brass grommets that I used. The headrest posts fit perfectly through them. Everything we used to make this was obtained from JoAnne Fabrics.

This one shows the pocket we made to go over the folded up back seats. We contoured it to fit the curve, but it wasn't worth it. It took us a lot of time. I'll keep it simple next time and just make a large pocket to go over the seats.

Here's the zipper we used under the front side of the pad. We can remove the foam pad and wash the whole thing. This is on the front leading edge of the pad.

I really have to give a lot of credit to my wife. She's a quilter and knows how to sew. I just came up with the ideas and design. I helped and pinned stuff and held the thing while she sewed.

Our boy.

All this effort was so that our dog "Diesel" could be comfortable on long trips. We put his bed back there and he will sleep for an 8-10 hr drive with breaks thrown in for relief. Man, does he want to play after we get there though. I'm ready to sleep and he wants to play.

Do you have a pattern to share/sell??

I've thought about that. I think we'll try to make another one in black and I'll see what I can do about making a few to sell. I'm going to make a simpler version without the contours, but it'll have the grommets, pad and zipper. The back seats will just be covered with a giant pocket that goes straight across. Diesel doesn't seem to care that it fits the contour of the seats.

It does a good job of keeping dog hair down. It still accumulates on the floor by the doors, but it's easily cleaned.

Here's one of Diesel wearing my jeans. He wanted to stick his head in there, so I helped him to see better.

If you make decide to make them

for the 04's with the head rests, in the rear, wouldn't the groumet idea work front & back & be simpler than the pocket.

Just thinking out loud.

I'm sure this would make alote of pets & their owners very happy-I say go for it.

I'm using a 40 mil shower pan liner. Just cut to fit. Works quite well collecting anything that might spill back there. Also, if you ever shower back there it won't leak. :)

I didn't know that the back had the headrests on the '04's. That would make it a lot simpler.

Anyone got any pics of the '04 back seats showing the headrests?

I bet this couldn't be retrofitted to the '03's. Could it?
