My SPS66 wastegate is set at 55psi and I have seen it spike to 60psi a couple of times. Been that way for a year and quite a few track passes with stock everything under the valve cover.

You can make all the boost you want on your stockers.

Is it ok? No.

I was slapping pistons with valves @ 500hp and 50psi.

What kind of noise will your engine be making if it is "slapping pistons with valves. " I have not dynoed, but I would venture to guess I am over 500 HP, and I know I have pushed 50 PSI. Should be something I should be worried about?

Well if you were wide open its basically valve float. Sort of fluttering or rough running for a second that alot of people take as a fueling issue (but is not).

F1 Valve springs cured it.

Was this with the stock cam? If it wasn't it could have been a combination of increased lift and duration as well as high boost.

well i've pegged a 60psi gauge and i know im close to 800hp on a stock cam

Same here but closer to 900 hp, but I don't have a dyno sheet to prove it!!!!!!! :D :-laf Oo. :--) :-laf  :-{} :)

I have a buddy that runs a stock cam and sledpulls with high boost. His valves float every time he pulls.

My old cam did not have any increased lift that I know of.

I am just letting you guys know what I have seen.

If your going to run high boost and rpm's the stock valve springs are not going to be enough. You can tell yourself that they are good enough but why not just upgrade?

Everyone is so fast to spend money on a new turbo, or injectors or stacking a module but they dont want to spend the few extra bucks on springs that will actually increase high rpm horsepower and keep your engine running safer.

I think its a no brainer. :-laf

I agree. I mean, shoot, there are guys buying 3 and 4 different fueling box's, $500 a pop. Including myself. I think it's time to pay some more attention to the baby that runs my beast. What is the install like of the F1 springs?

Well I have a tool that will install them when the head is off.

There is a tool though you can purchase from Cummins so you can install the springs while the head is on the truck. You just have to make sure that the piston is in the TDC position on the cylinder your working on.

i have boosted 74 psi a few times, and there were no signs on the pistons yet that doesnt mean the valves werent floating, it seams as i lose power over 62 psi in the top end, my new engine will be getting the helix stage2 and valve springs, how much boost can a properly studded stock mls gasket hold in, i want to be in the 75-80 psi area, shooting for 750-900 rear wheel horse.
