Any recommendations on the max boost that a '93 can safely handle?

I have my wastegate set at 26psi but if disconnected it will hit at least 35psi. Don't want to blow the head gasket, etc.

I can't say for sure, but nascar Mark is hitting 43lbs, I have had mine hit 30lbs, I think you have some room to play with. :)

The higher you go the faster it will push out the head gasket. How fast no one knows. Some come out sooner than later at same boost levels. Mine is slowly working its way out but hasn't let go yet. Next step I will be having Piers o-ring the head soon. :D

55 psi. ... cold motor and heavy fueling will push it out right now. U're usually safe below 55. i'd keep it below 50, but if it brakes or blows built it stronger and tougher, ... . u're just finding the weakest link. if it blows o-ring it, use a copper head gasket, put twins and worry about not going over 75 psi then.

I believe anything over 35-38 psi is either at or over the efficiency map of a stock turbo on our trucks.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Bob.

i believe it may be even lower than that. Like 28 -32. I was stating the max being head gasket strength, being one of the weakest links. I pushed my hx-35 all the way to 48-49. Oh well, it lived for a little while, lol.

Thanks for the info. It seems as though the head gasket should be ok for now:confused: . However, one can never have enough power, which leads me to the next question... .

If the old beast does spit out the head gasket, how will I be able to tell if it has happened? (never dealt with this one before) And what is o-ringing the head and the associated $$$$?

Thanks, SP

Head gasket goes you will must lickly lose power, have water in oil and oil in water, white smoke in exhaust, poor running etc...

O-ringing is removing approx. 10 - 12 thou of material around each cylinder in head and install stainless wire in the groove that was removed. Price will vary depending were it is done. Its not cheap but compared to all the work and cost of replacing head gaskets, its cheap in the long run.
