Travel Restrictions?

I have just finished a break and bearing job on my 10k horse trailer and the new shoes are adjusted properly. The rig stops great when I apply the foot brake but when I am rolling and I push the slide on my Max Brake Controller all the way to the left I can feel the trailer brakes apply but only a small amount. Does that sound right? I thought it should apply the brakes harder than that. What do you think?

This is not something that started with the brake job. It has been that way for a while.

Thanks

Does it always do that or only sometimes? What if you turn the gain up - does it still do that and does turning the gain up dramatically increase the braking when applying via the foot pedal?

Could just be that the slider resistor needs to be cleaned. I've had luck with contact cleaner on other controllers.

When you slide the switch, what do the LED bar segments do? Do they increase as they do with the foot brake?

Yes, it always does it. No change when I turn up the gain. The bar segments increase in proportion. I'll try some electrical contact cleaner and see what that does. Do you take the cover off or just spray it in around the slide slot?

Thanks

I've not taken the maxbrake apart. If you can get the spray in the potentiometer w/o taking it apart, that should be fine. Disconnect power first. Then spray, move the slide a lot, let dry, plug in and hope for the best.

Last time I used my MB as soon as I plugged the RV to truck the hydraulic actuator activated and was buzzing. I disconnected it and re installed factory controller with no issues.

Any idea what's going on with my MB????

If you are talking about the actuator on the trailer....then either there is bypass current in the controller or the pressure switch installed in the brake line isn't showing "no" pressure increase.

If it is the controller itself, check to make sure there isn't dirt in the slide or the slide has good contacts where it isn't purposely trying to apply brakes. Else the controller has gone bad.
If it is the Hydraulic pressure switch it will have to be replaced.

Of course this is assuming you did the "calibration" when you installed the controller so that the controller knows what is true "zero" based upon sensor inputs. See attached info on how to calibrate it.

Maxbrake for Sale

I’m a 5 year user of my Maxbrake and have loved it but have recently purchased a tow vehicle that has a built in controller so I won’t be using it anymore. I pulled it out of my 2007 RAM 2500. Let me know if you are interested in it.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/324118639859?_trksid=p2471758.m4703. The current bid is $56 but you have to go to $153 to beat the automatic bids. Look close at the last picture, there's a huge crack on the corner. Here's a copy of the messege I sent and the reply.
Me: I assume the controller is in good working condition. I'm only interested in the box as I want it to back up the one installed in my truck.

Him:The front corner is cracked but it worked good when I took it out, if there’s any issues with it I’m easy to work with.

Thank you so much! I have religiously checked ebay and never saw one. I better jump on that one. Mine was damaged during a jump start of the vehicle. "Self test fail" is worse than "I don't love you anymore" haha. Much appreciated MuddFlapp!

Anyone have directions for a "hard reset" on the MaxBrake? My problem is when I plugged in my RV cord to the in bed socket instantly the HydraStar Hydraulic actuator started pumping. The display on the MB mentioned something about the trailer I can't remember exactly what. I tried up-plugging controller along with RV cord still the same.

Dutch and Di used to be dealers. Try to contact them through the members list. Di was always helpful.
