I was going to southwest wheel website to check out the max brake and pricing and could not find the max brake listed; however, I did see this Tuson RV brake listed on their website. Is this Tuson piece as good or better than the Max Brake? Makes we wonder why Southwest Wheel does not have the Max Brake listed anymore... any Ideas?

Thanks

Go to Plug it Rite. Dutch & Di are good to deal with, have knowledge of the product and provide excellent service. Besides they are members of this site as well.

I don't know why SWW stopped selling the MaxBrake. If I had to guess I would guess that the buyer at SWW doesn't know squat about brake controllers.

OP, I believe that Tuson is that new pos that recently showed up on the market with several color pages of hype and bs to cover the fact that it is just one more inertia-activated controller.

Buy the MaxBrake from the TDR members cited above and be happy.

Max Brake is truly an awesome brake controler. I only have about 1,000 miles towing my Hitch Hiker II but the controller does an awesome job, instant on as soon as you touch your brakes, no lag and very smooth. The only thing I have come to dislike a bit is the mounting bracket that holds the unit iunderneath my dash nside the truck.

Can you mount it in the center dash cubby below the A/C controls like I did here with my BrakeSmart, no bracket required--

Another satisfied owner! Congratulations.

I've never heard of or read comments by a single owner who tried a BrakeSmart of MaxBrake and was dissatisfied and wanting his useless inertia-activated controller back.

Seafish, the only problem with the way you have yours compared to the MaxBrake is that the MaxBrake has the emergency hand actuated lever on the bottom of the of the controller. Don't know where the BrakeSmart's is, nice install though.

I guess it doesn't matter because BrakeSmart is no longer manufactured but the existing ones don't have an emergency hand operated lever. I had not heard of that device.

Harvey, maybe I didn't explain it right but it was a lever or knob that you could apply trailer brakes through the controller with out touching brake peddle. A lot of people used them to apply trailer brakes if trailer started to sway. Even the old Kelsey-Hayes had one. It was on the lever that you adjusted the brakes with, The silver lever with the black knob on it. I may be wrong but I believe some states required them at one time or other.

Jack,

Now I realize what you were referring to. When you said hand operated "lever" I envisioned a lever hanging off the bottom or side of the controller. The BrakeSmart does have a finger operated slide button for manual override. It's the small red button in seafish's photos. Its activated by pressing.

The MaxBrake's finger slide is on the bottom, that is what I was referring to as to setting it in the compartment like seafish did.

Yeah, the red button is very easy to activate on my set-up, if needed. I use it to check the trailer brake operation by quickly locking them up after I first hook-up and am just creeping forward with the truck. I can watch the trailer wheels lock-up in my rear view mirrors on each side.
It is REALLY too bad that DR performance first bought and the shut-down brakeSmart Production. While I am sure that the Max Brake functions exactly as wella s the BrakeSmart, but I personally think that the actual controller of the BrakeSmart is a better designed, better built, and better looking piece.
In any case, like HB points put, it is moot, because one can no longer obtain a BrakeSmart!!
