Life Changes....Nothing Ever Stays The Same

I'm in a pickle....Choosing elevator PM contract

My wife just bought a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This is the squared off style with solid axles.

Currently it has P225-75-15 tires on it. Does anyone know what size tires one can put on these without screwing up the ratio too much, or hitting the fenders?

We may put a 3" lift kit on it later on, but not right away.

If anyone else has one of these and would like to communicate, please PM me.

Thanks,

Blake

I put a 2" coil spring spacer lift-kit on my brother's old '98 Jeep ZJ - he cleared 31x10. 50's without any issues.

Matt, did you have to make any alignment or geometry changes in the suspension after putting in the spacers? Was the kit as simple as just the spacers, or was there more involved?

Thanks.

The kit was just coil spring spacers and new shocks. I believe he had it aligned afterwards. On edit: It was the first lift kit I ever installed and it took maybe 4 or 5 hours. It wasn't bad at all. The OEM brake lines and ABS lines get pulled a little tight - something to keep in mind.

In my opinion (and I get to deal with this on my own Jeep here sooner or later... ) the OEM spring rate and ride quality is WAY too plush. His ZJ felt wishy-washy and tended to sway a bit when taking corners... maybe a set of urethane bushings would have helped the sway... but the spring rate was too soft. I only drove my ZJ a few times before I tore it apart and it was REALLY wishy-washy because one of the sway bar links was busted in half. :-laf I can't wait until I get that thing running - they're sweet little SUVs with a ton of comfy features.

My bro now has a '04 (?) Rubicon with 5. 5" (?) of lift (new coil springs, control arms, shocks, etc. ) and riding on 35's... it rides a little rough, but all of the Wranglers do... especially the leaf spring models. The guy at the alignment shop earned his money that day - I think it was in there for 3 hours... it turned out nice, though.
