Just got some in, looks good. They came with a gasket and bolts. There not quite the same as the one on the show truck. There might be a different one for 2wd and 4wd.

No drain plug, the capacity is stock. AAM only, these are from mopar. There point is to cool the fluid not just add more thats is why they are not painted, paint helps to trap heat. They work like a large heat sink. This is what is on the 2012 tow max truck.

OUCH!!

I am not sure it's twice as good as the mag-hytec, considering no additional fluid and no drain.

Well I guess it's how you look at it, I don't believe there is any benefit in having more oil. They don't have an oiling problem and more oil doesn't mean it's going to run cooler. As a mater of fact it is harder to cool more mass including fluids with out a cooling system.

I Think this would help them to run cooler for big loads. That's probably why it only comes on the tow max. A drain plug would be nice and the price does hurt.

Just one mans opinon.

Now you should rattle can that housing, it looks awful with that shiny new high tech cover on there... ... ..... :D

The fins should work well.

Mike. :)

The high fin count will cool well, just don't hit them with anything they are thin.

I priced them out when they hit the parts book hoping they would be less than

the competition

More fluid typically means longer fluid life as well... for example my aluminum cover (ORU) cost me $50, adds several quarts of fluid, and rarely reaches 140*F. More mass also takes longer to heat up and gives more residence time against the cooling surface.

For $400, I personally wouldn't consider it... there are better covers for less money.

NICE looking cover, but I just can't see the point of NOT having a drain plug???!!!

I kept the stock diff covers on my truck, but at the very first fluid change, I drilled and tapped a hole for a 1/4" primary case drain plug off a Harley!!!Oo.
Now my diff fluid changes are a 30 minute affair for BOTH of them, AND the Harley plug has a small powerful magnet on its end to capture/keep track of metal degradation in the differential gears.
If I ever want to inspect the gears, I can drain the fluid first, then pull the complete cover without a huge mess. The Harley part cost all of $12 each at the time and the tap and drill took only 30 minutes.

My thoughts as well. I went with the MH cover, but added capacity and added cooling are good things.

Yes she is starting to look her age.

Added capacity can be a good thing. We had a customer that hot shots so there is always a gooseneck hooked to his truck. He has every gauge you can think of in his cab. He lost a pinion seal and stoped in here to have it change. If he hadnt had the extra fluid I think he would have lost rear end. But he said he has never seen any better then 2 degrees lower temp with the cover. He does change the fluid at 25k instead of 15k. I dont think 2 degrees is worth what it cost for the cover for me. When you have 16 or 18k hook to your truck in TX at a 100f out side your going to heat up in 15 minutes and on a 10 hour run 15 or 20 minutes dont mater munch. Because of cost these are not needed for the truck that halls one load a year or something that only halls 9k lbs but for trucks that work every day like hot shots trucks.

Another concern I have is what the salt will do to these with no paint or clear coat, I believe the salt will eat them up. But I think they will cool better then anything I have seen yet, and that what I was looking for.

I changed my fluid initially at 50k, then at 100k, then at 220k, and I sit with 266k... and it does get used occasionally. Of course, nine quarts of a good synthetic isn't cheap either.

Salt doesn't seem to affect them as much as one would expect... I've had my ORU polished/finned cover installed since 100k, it still looks new. I clean it every spring, it wipes shiny every time. But that is polished, not a rough casting.

I know this topic has been covered pretty well over the years but since I purchased a max tow cover for $125 plus shipping I thought I would pass on the info on this good price. Check out drivetrainamerica.com for a great price on the factory max tow cover... beats the $300 price tag I had been finding at other places. Ordered mine standard UPS... took only 2 days to get here and packaged very well... hard to beat that value on a good product. Hope this helps someone.

This is the # on the box 1-68149259AA the person who orders parts isn't here now.

Maybe you should post your "FOR SALE" items in the CLASSIFIED instead of the discussions.
I just installed the MagHytec cover with the site glass, only available at GENO'S, on my '07 yesterday. Only $270 Ups the lube in the rear diff (AAM 11. 5) to 5. 1 quarts.
