I have a 98 12V and looking for what the max turbo boost should be with a Banks Stinger kit installed. I have never seen more than 20psi. Some say I should see as much as 32psi and some say 20psi is normal. I suspect it should be more, and feel the waste gate may be opening too soon. Any ideas?

Welcome to the TDR!!!!!

With a stinger, my guess is that you would be lucky to see around 30... I saw 49 before I grenaded my HX35-12. . I was going to go the banks route, but found cheaper ways to get more power. . they are good, but I think they only come with a 11 or 12 plate... It is a good platform to start, but would definitely look into more upgrades!!! the stinger is like 1,000 bucks, aint it?? just curious. BTW, get a signature set up sometime so we can see what all mods you are running on the truck, and it is easier to get some questions answered. Enjoy your membership with the TDR!

My Stinger Plus will max out at 38 psi but you need a hill and a big load to do it. Running empty the most I can get is 30, even then you need a hill or accelerating by flooring it.

Well with my sig (minus 300's still :{ ) I can hit 45PSI on at WOT(wide open throttle) after talking with Chris when he blew his @ 49 I'm about to detune my AFC setup to cut back some boost:rolleyes:

Not sure how far the Stinger includes the twin ram or not, on My 96, I could peg about 38 PSI of boost with a Power Pak, but like Bill said, this was pulling 9K up a 7% grade. I would be suspect of 20 though- I would think you'd see more.

Thanks for all your input. The truck has the stinger (no turbo housing change) an automatic trans, 3:54 rear and I consistently see 800 degrees post turbo and a max boost of 20psi when pulling any grade with my 9k lb FW attached. I think I'll make an appointment at The Power Shop and see what they can find.

I'v been a TDR member since late 97' when I bought the truck new, but have never really paid much attention to the website. All of your input into these discussion forums have been great. I have saved so much $ by looking through these forums for solutions to problems with my truck.

Thanks Again

Steve

FWIW, my testing with post/pre turbo pyro's showed that you can add 10*F for every 1 psi boost,,... until about 21-22 psi... then the margin of error gets larger as you go up. At 27 psi my variance was nearly 300*F.

Right now, if your showing 800*F post turbo with the you can safely assume you're actually getting about 1000*F pre-turbo.

Got the truck back from the power shop and sure enough the waste gate was improperly adjusted. Getting 30 psi now with less smoke and lower temps. There was also a minor air leak at one of the clamps near the intercooler. Thanks again for you input. :D
