Trailer brake controller

Adding Auxillary A/C System

I did some research here and installed a MaxBrake trailer brake controller on a friends 2007, 5. 9 4x4. I mounted it out of the way the best I could on the left side of the steering wheel as this friend of mine is 6ft 4 in tall. The manual brake slider was vulnerable to his knee when exiting the truck. I sent it back to MaxBrake to see if there was anything they could do. They offered to try to turn the display 180 degrees so the manual slider was on the top instead of the bottom of the controller. I just received it back and they fixed it. I want you guys to know that their controller is the best in my book as it is a true control that senses the service brake pressure of the truck and applies the identical amount of braking to the trailer. My friend has a cattle ranch and hauls heavy. He is extremely happy with the braking the MaxBrake does on his heavy trailers.

I have two other clients that I work on their trucks and they have the inertia style controllers. BOTH trucks had premature brake AND rotor wear while the trailer brakes looked good.

The guys at MaxBrake took care of me and my friend with GREAT service.

the maxbrake is the best. here is a pix of a location where we mount our maxbrakes the pix is of a smartbrake no longer made that works the same as the maxbrake

We mounted ours on the lower section of our dash on the Right side of the steering wheel for 2 reasons. 1. You don't catch it with your knee and 2. If you have a health problem while going down the road the passenger can reach the emergency slide to at least get the vehicle slowed down and hopefully grab the steering wheel. Works for us. Di

Since I installed my Max Brake I have put on about 400 miles on it trying it out. Boy what a difference. It sure beats my old Prodigy. It doesn't feel like the trailer is in control of the truck. I think what people do not realize is with an inertia controller nothing happens with the trailer brakes until there is a definite slow down of the rig. With the Max Brake or any other hydraulic brake controller the minute you touch the brake pedal the trailer brakes start to apply no more truck before the trailer. Works a lot like the old Kelsy-Hayes hydraulic/electric I use to have only much smother & better.

I like my Brakesmart mounted in the cubby below the AC controls...
It's handy to reach right near the gearshift and easy to see, but out of the way of hitting it with anything, including you knees...
There are aslo no wires to be seen or get tangled up in.
I guess in a health emergency like D&D are talking about a passenger could also activate it easily.

I like this location, in an emergency it is very handy and in eye sight. All mine, under the dash are out of the way but impossible to use by hand in a hurry.
