MM overlaps our anniversary, and it would be fun to go there. BUT, what else is there to do?



The wife's not into diesel smoke or watching dyno runs, and the exhibits would keep her attention about 30 seconds. So, since we don't gamble, drink, party, or anything else Nevada is famous for, what else is there to do? I gotta make the wife happy, of course, so that means stuff she'd enjoy...



So, if yer in the LV area, have lived there, or otherwise have useful ideas...

There's a lot of stuff to tour here in Southern Nevada besides casinos. Lots of scenery like Red Rock Rec area, Lake Mead, Valley of Fire, more stuff in southern Utah, ghost towns toward Tonopah, etc. Death Valley and the only winery in Nevada are near/in Pahrump (the winery is good enough that Calif. wine folks tour it). There's an interesting museum of early So. Nev. "civilization" in Henderson, with early houses transplanted there, etc. etc.



I can't think of everything. Here are a few more: if you are a fan of the movie "Vanishing Point" you should visit Goldfield where some of it was filmed (movie home of Super Soul played by Cleavon Little). The Mizpah Hotel in Tonopah goes back to 1905 I think. Aline trekkies can take the jaunt past Tonopah to Rachel on Rt. 375, the Alien Highway, closest allowable to Area 51.

Death Valley is right next door!

You're only an hour away from the valley of death. There are a weeks worth of things to see. If you haven't been there, GO!

Some interesting Museums, tours of Boulder Dam where you go down inside and see all kinds of cool stuff and the history of it is amazing. (do they still do that tour?) great buffets real cheap. The Casinos are almost beyond belief with the way they are decorated and the pizazz inside, worth going to look at for sure. Circus Circus has circus acts goin on all the time inside for free and at least one casino has a amusment park inside and another has boat rides in a canal inside so lots to see without gambling.

Stay in a motel in Vegas, leave your wife the credit card- so you don't buy too many gotta-havits , let her shop during the day while you're up in Pahrump. She won't notice you're gone, and you can get your Diesel Fix. Come back in the evening, shower off the soot and tire smoke, and go to one of the shows. Great plan

Well, it sounds interesting enough. How do I go about finding some sort of resource that lists all the stuff so I can "sell" her on it?



I know how I did Alaska, but that was easy... Milepost was enough. I'm sure I should know what to do here, but for some stupid reason the mind is a blank at the moment.

Try the Las Vegas chamber of Commerce and the Visitors Bureau, Dept Of Tourism. Dont know of any web sites but I bet they all have one. Also try a search on vegas casinos for web sites as they are all trying anything to get people to come out there and may have other attractions listed too.

I agree with what everyone said, but remember we all bring our wives and she will soon be friends with someone and finding things to do while you can "talk trucks". Last year we spent time at the Casinos/hotels on the strip, there is a lot to look at simply walking around, a very interesting place. Spend 1/2 your time at TDR things and 1/2 doing things with her. We usually either do other things enroute or on the way back. This years plans include visiting death valley. In years past we have gone to the Grand CAnyon, Black Hills/Mount Rushmore, etc. Why not find out what she would like and plan acordingly to allow each of you to do various things you each like together.

We'll spend no more than a day or two in the area... I'd like to visit Death Valley, Virginia City, Zion, the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and a number of things I've managed to locate on the internet so far. I ordered a tourist packet from the state of nevada, so that may contain some interesting things



I've talked to the wife, and she's kind of interested, especially if we get to see all the interesting stuff along the way. She's talking about having a week or more off work around then. The only question is how we deal with the kids - and whether we take them or farm 'em out. (I'm in the farm 'em out camp)

With the exception of death valley we have been to all of the places you mention. They are all worth a visit in my opinion. We plan on probably 3 days at death valley.

As for the kids, I know they can be a pain, always had mine along until they were on their own, but it sure is nice now with out them too.

I think the Dam tours are not going anymore after 9/11/01.

You will need way more that a week to do all of what you have listed and MM02.

What Larry said about making friends is true. We have some fellow TDR members we met at MM96 in Carson City that we look forward to seeing again every year.

I am not sure where in Oregon you are, but it is over 1,100 miles one way for us.

In all candor, it is unlikely I'll get more than a little while - maybe parts of 2 days - at MM if I get to go at all. I hate to say this, but the wife would NEVER stand for it. If she went it would take about 2 hours, and she'd come find me... "Well, are you ready to go yet?" With that look and tone that says you better be, or she's going to wreak some serious havoc with your life.



While I love her dearly, she has roughly NO interest in any of my hobbies, and tolerates them only if she doesnt come in contact with them. That goes for my computer stuff, trucks, model railroading, and several other things I'm fascinated with.



I once made the mistake of spending an extra hour or two at the model train club meeting, and that pretty much ended all my model train activities for years. So, as you see... I'm really not into taking chances here. Also, she gets extremely hostile when I go off striking up conversations and being friendly with people I really don't know. It's best she not be around to ask, and me have to explain repeatedly that, "no, I really have no idea who that was i was talking to for 20 minutes". I once met a CTD owner in Canada at one of the RV parks we stopped at, and compared notes for a while, perhaps 40 minutes of chatting. When I got back to my space, she was so mad at me she nearly came unglued... "HOW COULD YOU GO TALK TO PEOPLE YOU DON"T KNOW!!!" And ranted on for at least 10 minutes about the evils of strangers. I almost expected her to demand we hook up and leave right then and go home, after committing such a horrible deed.



Anyway, the point is: No, I'm not bringing her to TDR events for long periods of time (depending on her mood, that could anywhere from 10 minutes to a couple hours), and no, I really can't leave her somewhere on her own for a couple days while I am otherwise occupied, either. She isn't going 1000 miles just to be ignored and left sitting in some strange town she doesn't know. Either might seriously jeopardize our future as husband and wife.

Some things to do!!!????? We'll to start with... she has to go to the forum shops at Ceasars Palace. It is something to be seen for yourself. Incredible!!!! Not to mention all the theme Hotels... . You can visit Paris and New York in the same day. Every Casino has tons of places to see, each pretty much unique to that hotel..... Venetian, Ceasars, Bellagio, New York New York, just to mention a few... . the whole strip has stuff... . Shark Reef at the Mandilay Bay is another really cool site. Plus, all the shows!!!! If it can be done, it can be done in Vegas!! There is even a small Ski Resort up at Mt. Charleston, only 1/2 hour from Vegas. If you need more ideas, just email me... I would be happy to help out!!.

Does your wife have an agoraphobia problem, a fear of crowds and conversing with people? I am like you and I am able to make friends with almost anyone and if we have a common interest like these trucks, well, all the better.....

I hope you are over stating how she raggs you but I couldn't live like that. did you tell her that you are an adult and you can take care of yourself around others? your post is leaning on abuse qualities from her. Don't mean to dis your wife but that is unheard of to rule you like that over interracting with others and such.

I have other hobbies and such and I am not married but can't imagine that kind of treatment. i took my dad with me to MM01 and he and I found new friends and talked all the time with others. some of the wives are great too. we were in Pahrump and the wives were put into the lounge at the dealership with food and such to talk while we did our boy things

Can't give you advice since I am not married but you need to stand up for what you want to do and if you want to talk to strangers and talk shop, she should let you. this is my opinion and hope you agree.....

No, nothing like mental illness... She works in a very public place... Hospitals... and routinely goes to new ones and works with large numbers of total strangers.



It just really sets her off that I make a decision about teh character of people within a short time of meeting them, and if I think they are decent, and I have time, and we share interests, I tend to carry on like we've been friends. She thinks that's a terrible mistake.



Other than that... she figures OUR time is OUR time, and I should not be taking away from it for a bunch of strangers...
