I was going to replace the bulbs in one of my tailgate lights only to find out that you can't replace them. You have to buy the whole thing lens and all from the dealer. I know 4 bucks ain't much but why couldn't they just used regular light bulbs for that.
OK enough ranting. New bumper does look cool BTW

Curtis,I replaced a tail light bulb in my '95 with one from NAPA,think it was around 4 bucks though. Are you saying that they changed on the newer trucks,or is somebody giving you the run around? My closest dealer is 50 miles, glad I don't have to go that far for a bulb.

I'll agree with illflem, I got mine at a local carquest for about 3. 50 and If I remember it was even the same brand as what it had orig. I just hate to give DC the money .

gitchesum... .
You have been lead astray my friend. Lower the tailgate of the truck. Remove two torx head screws in the inside of the fender and slide the tail light assembly straight out the back. Then with a quarter twist the light bulb socket will twist out of the tail light assembly. The new light bulb simply plugs into the socket. You can purchase the bulb from any auto parts store.

The lights that are out are the little lights in the middle of the tailgate on the 3500. The guy at the dealership was trying to sell me the whole set. All I need is one light.

You can not just buy one thing, you have to get multiples in the packages, that way when you do happen to (in the next 10 years) need one you have no idea where you put it.

RV window handle broke, had to replace the entire mechanism as handle not sold by itself.

I'm not familiar with the tailgate lights but I'm going to be pretty soon as the 3500 will be there when I finish with my camping during Elk season. This is what the industry calls marketing!

The red marker lens/lights are cheap as long as you don't buy them from the dealer. I've seen them at every NAPA,and also at the KW dealership and even at Flying J. They're only about 3. 50-4. 00 each.
There's a local truck accessory shop here that offers them green, yellow, red, blue and purple!

Alot of this stuff is going to the "sealed" type lights. Most of your semi trailers' taillights are that way now. Bulb burns out, you replace the whole sealed assembly. I guess it's supposed to seal out the moisture etc. better, not to mention make more money for the light companies #ad

I guess I can see your point dan. How did they keep moisture out of the marker lights on the older trucks I used to own. I guess water didn't start effecting lights until the 90's. #ad

Just an update: I went to the dealer with the light in my hand, his original price of 4 dollars was way off. They wanted
13. 75 plus tax
.
Following MIke's advise I went to NAPA. $1. 99 each. After I replaced the one bulb it sort of stood out(being clean and all)so I had to go in and buy two more. Still only spent 6 dollars total.
Thanks guys.

Are those tailgate lamp OEM factory? I believe that those lights are aftermarket, even though they are on the truck at on the dealers lot.

I had a simular problem with a 90' bronco that had lighted running boards. The lights were sealed and a one peice unit. One blows out have to replace the whole side. Sounds like the same deal with the tailgate. The dealer will be more $$$.

If your tailgate lites are TruckLite brand
go to a reputable dealer,like I did ,

& get it replaced
for free as they have a lifetime warranty.

I went to Advance Auto Parts and purchased a set of these lights for my 2500. They're nearly identical to the stock lights, and the whole kit only cost me $14. If you want to add these lights to a 2500, do not buy them from DC, they want over $100 for the lights, bracket & harness.
