Does anyone KNOW if it is possible to find out if my OD unit is the one that came with my truck ? I have a suspicion the outfit that rebuilt my transmission swapped it for one that was damaged and leaked. Unless they damaged it because, clearly it is not a perfect undamaged casting. I'll post pic's if anyone is interested.

The bar code tag is still attached to the unit. I called the factory, they said, I had to go to a dealer. The dealer said they cannot. I know that IF the FBI needed to know what vehicle it came from matching VIN, they could. It can't be this difficult.

If the Kokomo plant keeps build records that is probably the only place that info exists. Might not be exact either as a lot of parts are not identified by piece, only by batch. The bar code may only be a manufacturer batch number and not unique to the item. Said batch was used in such and such time period, said trans PN was built in such such run in said time period. Might be as close as you can get if they even archive that info.

If you had the transmission rebuilt and now have a leak, what does the rebuilder have to say. Leak may not be where it appears. Fluid travels! Pictures yes!

I had my transmission rebuild this winter and they had to replace the output seal for the rear drive line after the fact(no charge) and redo the torque converter stall speed(everything out again) because they screwed up. They kind of own things when you drive out the door, so swapping to a bad case is not to their advantage.

PICTURES of OD unit.

The OD unit appears to have a small chip (bottom LEFT pic) as if it had been dropped. I doubt the casting came this way from the factory.

The lower right bolt (Top left pic)) has been leaking for almost a year. I've had the bolt out and back in six times now using various Permatex thread sealing agents appropriate for the application as well as, various sealing type washers. (copper, Teflon, and fiber) Nothing has worked. There is NO sign of cracked casting.

The transmission pan bolt hole (bottom right pic) was also stripped out by the idiots that rebuilt the transmission. I used a 1/4x20 through hole to compensate.

I've had nothing but problem with the transmission ever since it was rebuilt. Shifting issues, electrical issues and so on. Each time I talked to the people in Canada that did the work I was told, "the 05 to 07's were "plagued with electrical issues".. I find that impossible to believe since I got 245,000 miles and seven years of daily highway use out of it WITHOUT a single problem prior to letting and the shop that removed and reinstalled it get their mits on it.

I think it very odd that the metric bolts are not standard mm and pitch as well. OD to transmission bolts are 9.35 mm not simply 10mm that cannot be found other than some special order source.

Ir is more likely somebody used a chisel to sperate the OD unit from the case and chipped it. The leak is either case flaw that has finally worked to the surface or a hairline crack that will take some very good instrumentation to see. That is not unusual on these OD units because of the mounting system and the TQ n the drive train. It is so much of a problem PATC is sourcing a heavier custom replacement for the OD houisngs.

As to the rest of the problems, the builders have some knowledge issues if the really believe the transmissions were that bad. Predominatly, builders that lack the knowledge of how to do it right were and are a much bigger issue. Sorry for your luck there. Tends to sour the experience somewhat.

Maybe the bolts are SAE sized?

9.35mm / 25.4 mm/in = 0.374 in, or really close to 3/8". Can you compare the threads to a standard coarse or fine thread bolt?

Service adviser did some checking and found out it is a: .375 x 16 x 1.38 My digital caliper converted to 9.53mm x 35.05mm
I took the bolt out and it read 9.35mm. It's a course thread to be sure, odd pitch too. A 3/8 x 16 will not fit.

Post a photo of the sticker. It may have a julian date stamp and you could tell if it was built after your truck was.

I realize that my comment is "After the fact" but ANYTIME, which is very seldom, that I send something to a rebuilder, I put my MARK on cases and or parts that I can get to, to make sure I get MYparts back. This practice saved me once. A guy tried to cheat me out of a nice set of VW air-cooled heads. I got them back.

The door panel label build date is 02/2005. OD unit is 12/04.
