I just finished convincing (I think) the wife that I need a 2500 ETH/48RE with an 8' bed. I have a landscaping buisness that I do part time and I really need an 8' bed so I can get a dump bed insert. I wish I had thought my 2500 Q/C shortbed more thoroughly before I purchased it, but thats water under the bridge now. So if I get payoff on mine and no more than $300 over invoice on the new one I should ordering within the week. :) :)

Hopefully ordering a silver, 03' 2500, SLT, 4x4, regular cab, ETH/48RE, snowplowprep, trailer tow.

Why not keep your truck and buy a trailer that can haul stuff? It's going to cost you a bundle of $$$ for that extra 2 feet. :(

Well, while you're rethinking it why don't you get a 3500 (even a SRW) if you're going to put a dump insert in it?

I have considered the trailer option and though I would prefer a dump insert if I can't make the numbers work with the dealer I will get a trailer.

Can you get a 3500 regular cab with single wheels?

Not trying to be smart, but if you want to use a dump bed, you dont want the 2500. Springs are too soft and the brakes are smaller than the 3500.

Get the 3500 SRW Quad cab long bed.

Or maybe a set of these...

http://www.hellwigproducts.com/helper_sp.html

They aren't the coolest thing on the Blvd but I've seen them around and they appear to work. How much does a slide in dump bed weigh? I carry a ~150 lb tool box, ~150 lb hitch and a 1900 lb pin weight along with our 325 lbs in the cab and the truck still sits just a tad high in the rear or almost level. I know legally the helper springs don't make it a 3500SRW but there's not much difference between the two otherwise.

On the other hand, the two extra doors and back seat make a handy place to put alot of stuff out of the rain. I didn't realize you couldn't get a reg cab 3500 SRW.

Edit... . I found this and answered my question.

ge the 3500. just like you regretted the 6 ft bed, you will regret not getting 3500. IMHO I called and changed mine when i found out it was going to cost me an extra $560. no brainer

Hmm? While I was outside installing my hitch and crawling around under the truck, it sure looked to me like I had twin piston calipers on the rear brakes. Yup... I snapped a picture if you wanna see! Some one put 3500 brakes on my 2500!:D

I do agree though, for what he's wanting to use the truck for, a 3500 SRW would be better. I would have bought the 3500 I was looking at but I figured I could add a leaf to the rear suspension if it needed it and without the stock helper springs my hitch went in without any special brackets or procedures. The axles on both are rated the same.

I talked to some dealers on the phone today and one will order a truck at $300 over invoice but I need to bring my truck in on monday so they can give me a trade in quote. As far as 3500's go I do not want a dual wheel truck because it is not the best choice for snowplowing. Also I don't want a quad cab 8' bed due to the length which also affects plowing in tight areas and furthermore you can not get a plowprep package on a quad cab 8' footer and I don't want any dealer telling me they won't cover a warrenty claim because I plow with a truck not equipped to do so. Finally, the dumper weighs about 800 pounds and if I have a spring problem I will either do helpers or just put in 3500 springs.

I could have sworn I drove a 3500 SRW quad-cab short bed in November. Did I dream this? And the 3500 rear brakes have larger pistons than the 2500, but they are both dual-caliper.

Understand about your waranty issue, though... ...

You probably did drive a 3500 quad cab 6' bed but I need a 8' bed for a dump insert and because I can't get a 3500 single wheel regular cab I am going to get a 2500 regular cab.

Ordered 1/27/03. Silver, '03, 2500, Regular Cab, SLT, 4x4, ETH/DG8, snowplow prep, trailer tow, anti spin axle, keyless entry, fog lamps, sliding rear window, trailer tow mirrors, hood shield, on/off road tires.

They maybe close to the same truck(2500 vs 3500) but I get 1000 more worth of sticker on the side of my truck than you get and that is what the ladies see. . :-laf They, being the ladies ,dont even know what cummins is but the d/f b/t 2500 and 3500..... ooohyea:D Oo.
