Well after reading all the threads about aftermarket exhausts here on our TDR board, I gave the guys a call at diesel performance parts and ordered the MBRP 4" SS T304 pro kit.

( just another reason to keep joining every year... this is when lurking pays off )

It shipped out just as they said it would. Received it 3 days later as they said it would.

Packaged nice, but where the tip was in the box (under the end of one of the pipes), it got scratched up a little bit. But other than that... all the pipes and their hangers were in 100% perfect condition.

My elbow/down pipe bolts wouldn't come out. Kept spraying them each night, once an hour with a liquid wrench for a few hours each night.

This morning they came out pretty easy.

I had read a comment from one other buyer/user of the MBRP system here on TDR. He noticed that the supplied 1/2 bolts didn't thread into the elbow well. So I tested the supplied bolts and the stock bolts with a 1/2 nut,and the threads were not the same. Just as the other TDR member found, the stock bolts were 10mm on mine as well. When I went to reuse my stock bolts I found that they were to short to get a few good threads started. I went and bought 60mm long bolts.

After tightening them up ( 25ft/lbs) I found that the shoulder was too long on the 60mm long bolt and it bottomed out. But the down pipe flange was now pulled in enough to go back to the stock bolts.

In total the sawzall made short work of the pipes. The cut off wheel on the grinder made even shorter work of the hangers on the stock pipes. Turned out easier to cut the old hangers off leaving enough of a handle to get them out of the rubber hangers.

The new system went in easily at first. In less than a half hour the system was hung and ready to join the tail pipe to the muffler. But with ALL the hangers in place, you can't join the muffler to the tail pipe. Things fit soo well, you just can't do it.

Taking out the rubber hanger all together by the axle( muffler end of the tail pipe), the one furthest from the shock, and the rubber hanger at the input end of the muffler, the one rubber hanger closest to the drive shaft, left enough play to get the tail pipe in to the muffler. With all things hanging in the correct position, it's easy to slide those two rubber hangers back into place.

With a jack under the tail pipe to hold it up as high as I wanted it ( almost ) I went and put the clamps on loosely. I torqued down the elbow bolts ( see above about the correct bolts). Check position of all other pipes and starting tightening from the front, working my way to the back.

Went for a test drive. The system sounds great. You can hear the turbo whirl. Never heard that from the stock exhaust. At light throttles it sounds almost stock, but with a deep raspy note at idle. When you get on it, it has a very deep sound. No rattle from the system on this first day. I could not find a hint of drone that others have complained about. But only as a guess, if using the supplied bolts, the down pipe may not have tighten down and seated well enough to the elbow. Since the way the supplied bolts went in, it felt way too early that the flange was tightened up to the elbow.

One "My bad"..... be careful with the clamps. Just a little too much arm during wrenching with a box wrench when tightening the clamps... . I noticed later that I started to make two of the clamps deform. The sheetmetal part of the clamp started to bulge out. . buckling from too much compression via the nut.

I have only two very very minor complaints... ... ...

The supplied down pipe flange bolts are wrong (at least on my truck).

I think the rear hangers should be about 1/2" shorter to keep the tail pipe up higher as it come out from under the fender.

Well, ok a third to be real picky, my exhaust tip was slighly scratch as mentioned above.

On the up side... .....

Sounds great.

Material finish is very nice and clean.

Fit is perfect other than explained above.

Supplied tip is great looking, fit perfect and is T304 as well.

Price is hard to beat for being a T304 system.

After shopping around this system was only about 100 buck more than other manufactures' T409, and more than 100 bucks less that other big name branded to big for the pants T409 systems that I've read some very bad things about here on TDR.

I think the guys at DPP will be selling two more MBRP systems. I have two other buddies in need of new exhausts. One stopped over just after I finished and liked what he saw and heard. And another I'm sure will to when he sees/hears it.

I want to thank the folks at DPP for shipping it out promptly.

Nice product.

I got the T409 SS MBRP and liked it as well :D . The prices seem to have come down since I bought. I used band clamps and was glad I did because I've adjusted it a few times and it was easy cause the pipes don't get deformed.

I noticed the turbo whistle also, but if you want to see more whistle and power add a BHAF or conical filter... WOW... what a difference Oo. . I got a AFE stage 1 from Piers Diesel. Trust me... Its well worth it ;) . Try it. You won't be sorry :-laf .

Glad you like your exhaust. At first I noticed a drone but its gone. . or I'm used to it..... since I fixed my intercooler boot boost leak. Got new boots from Piers... Nice! Oo.

I'm a happy 4 in MBRP exhaust customer too Oo. .

I like mine also!! Can hardly wait for the weather to warm up so lots of other vehicles have their windows down when I pull up next to them. :D

i don't have the mbrp, but i love my 4 incher as well. as far as drone, i only get a small bit of noticeable drone hauling 12k trailer at 2100-2200 rpm. nothing in daily driving, but i usually pass 2000-2200rpm at a fairly quick rate!

my experience, don't weld the joints if you are gona bomb the truck more... exhaust adjustments were necessary for the different turbo and downpipe.

Mark,

Thanks for the note and checking in.

Yes, the brown truck is not an easy trip.

I believe I can speak/write for most of us here and say that we members of TDR like to see that the vendors are listening and watching. Which is one of the reasons I selected DPP... . saw your name all over the message board with replies and comments and support. #ad

Since I use my truck, and it's not a show truck, I'm gonna guess the tip is gonna get a bit more scratch up than the little bit that's on there now. So thanks, but I won't be unrealistic and put DPP through replacing it. Only if it starts to rust will I take you up on it.

The clamps were my fault, how much are three new clamps?

It was dark under there, so I didn't notice that the badly deformed clamps were deforming as I tightened and tightened..... well I'm sure you get the point.

That's why I always like to have torque specs, tell me when to stop.

PM me or email direct. thanks
