Just to make sure that I'll do this right..... after the exhaust clamps on the front and back side of the cat are loosened and removed, heat has to be applied to where the clamps were at?

How hot? Does the pipe have to turn red all the way around? After the pipe is heated, how long will it take to get the cat and the pipe removed? Will the cat delete install pipe go on easier than the removal? TIA.

hmmm... no response to this thread. I am about to do the same thing this afternoon. Wondering if i should not even worry about removing it safely and using a sawzall or grinder open of the pipe and not wory about it or is it really worth it for the torch thing... Any ideas guys?

I just cut a slit on each side of the pipe and spred it to get it off (I have done 11 trucks now). The darn factory "U" clamps crush the pipes to much to just pull them apart, even with a lot of heat from a torch.

I'll second that.

It is illegal though. Someone I know did his anyway, the split looks like this:

Make sure to get band clamps! Pay no attention to the weld. An idiot cut the wrong pipe off. At least he could weld.

The only one that he said was tough to get to was the front cat connection that is right at the crossmember. But if you get in a comfortable spot and take your time it's so easy a caveman could do it.

How much more would our membership cost to get the forum software to resize pics?

I just did mine a couple of weeks ago. I cut three slits on the outlet side and spread the pipe open. On the front side I cut the the pipe in half just behind the cross member with a sawzall. Then I unbolted the down pipe and removed the piece of pipe from the down pipe in the garage. That seemed to work out good.
