I recently installed the 4 inch aluminized MBRP exhaust system. Nice easy installation. All of the posts I had reviewed indicated that the system while having a good tone did not resonate. Mine really starts beating the band around 2100 RPM under regular cruising. I've gotten around the problem by running in OD (US Gear). I've not towed with it yet to see how it sounds under a real load. I'm planning a trip out West next month and I just know my wife is going to make multiple comments about it the whole trip. It really gets loud in the cab to the point of really being a pain. Anyone else have a similar problem? Perhaps a stiffening rod or two clamped on the long section of pipe ahead of the muffler might change some of the dynamics of the system. Any ideas? Thanks.

hi there,

I too have a 4" MBRP and notice some of the resonation you are talking about. In the front seat of the cab it's not so bad, in the back, its much worse (not that I know that since no one but me can drive, but i can only speculate :D ). So how to make it better? Maybe extra support, or running at a lower RPM, if that's possible... I've found that if I'm racing up the highway pushing 2500RPM it's A LOT worse than if i'm cruising at 60-65... I'd go slower to keep the complaints down... until the ford shows up in the rear view... :D

Interesting, my system had no noise in the cab whatever over the stock exhaust. Only when I deleted the muffler a week ago I do have some resonance, but my fiance' didn't say anything yet LOL.

Welcome to the club. I've had the LOUD DRONE for well over 5 years. First with a 4" exhaust from Jardine, then with the new MBRP I installed this spring.

between 2000 and 2250 rpm is my "sweet spot" if you want to call it that.

If I have someone riding in the truck with me I don't even bother to try to have a conversation with them ... you basically have to scream to be heard.

It just goes with the territory. Get some earplugs ... its the only thing you can do.

... goes with the territory... pretty much true.

I enjoy the noise, others may find it slightly unpleasant. tell 'em it's like being on a ferry, pay attention to the scenery! :p

It just seems that long section (QC) of thin walled pipe is just ripe for vibration. This weekend, I'll try clamping some small angle irons on it just to see what happens. The truck is out now getting some mods done. I may be a late bloomer (had the truck since new), but I feel that "slippery slope" calling. Y'all a bad influence!!

The 5" that I put on really resonated from 2800 up past 4000. You cant hear a dang thing when I do that... But everyone sure looks at me!
