Pro's and con's of both. Is one more quiet than the other? How's the "drone" issue while driving empty vs. towing? What's the sound difference between a 4" and a 5" system? Thanks in advance fellas.

Chris

P. S. My stacks aren't working out the way I wish they would :{

That is absolutely false. The Magnaflow kit is MUCH quieter than the MBRP. I have had both on my truck as well as a few others. The 5" MBRP drone at 75-80 is pretty bad. Magnaflow has a slight drone, but nothing thats annoying. The reason being that the Magnaflow kit had an actual muffler that has a 4" core. The MBRP kit is basically a glorified straight pipe with very little packing material as its only a 6" case. My advice would be to go with the Magnaflow kit.

Good information. .

Nonetheless... a 5" system is going to be quite a bit louder than a 4". No matter if it's the MBRP or the Magnaflow, a 5" system will give you louder tone and a potential to have drone at higher speeds.

Why does the Magnsflow website say the 5" system is only available for '04 and newer trucks? I thought the '03-'04 systems were all the same.

gsbrockman, I see you have an '03 with this system. I gather that it worked for you?

See signature in my first post... ... ... ... ... works great with a 325/600 cast iron elbow. :D

I take it that I have to get the 325/600 cast iron elbow to make it work? If so that stinks :(

If you want to hang 5" turbo-back on a 305/555 you'll need the elbow... ... ... . they're easy to find though. All you have to do is find someone with a 325/600 engine that has added an exhaust brake; maybe even someone with a 325/600 that swapped turbos, too. Elbows {used} can be had on this site and others for around $25--$35 plus shipping. I *think* I paid around $32 shipped for mine from ebay. :D

Thanks for the information Greg. If I do go with it, then I'll start doing some searching for that elbow. Wonder if the MBRP system is a 4" at the turbo and then goes to 5"?

I can answer that question for you. The MBRP 5" exhaust has a downpipe that starts out at 4" then steps up to 5" about halfway down. Magnaflow's 5" system is the same way. Also, another thing to consider is the MBRP 5" exhaust has a 1 piece tailpipe and the Magnaflow 5" has a 2 piece tailpipe. Exhausts that have a 2 piece tailpipe are known to have drone issues if the tailpipe isn't welded together.

If the magnaflow system starts at 4" at the elbow like the MBRP, then why wouldn't it work for me on my '03? I had a MBRP 4" system before and worked fine. Not trying to beat a dead horse with this topic.

5" Magnaflow drone.

I assisted my buddy install his 5"Magnaflow turboback stainless exhaust. Fit and finish was excellent but in my opinion it has an annoying drone. He's got a reg. cab too which usually limits the drone. He wishes he's gone smaller.

To be honest with you, I don't know. I think it'll work just fine, but what was probably meant by using the 600/610 elbow is that it'll most likely fit better. Still not sure though.

Scott

To my knowledge, the 305/555 engines have a 3. 5" cast iron elbow (their exhaust is 3. 5" from turbo to muffler, then 4" from muffler to tailpipe). The 325/600's have a 4" cast iron elbow, thus the need for the bigger elbow on the 305/555 engine to accomodate the 5" system. Too bad I just put my elbow & downpipe at my barn just Friday or I'd measure it.

Greg

I've never measured my cast iron elbow. All I know is that my 4" MBRP system hooked up just fine. Not sure thought if the connector was 3. 5" and then went to 4".
