A friend just bought a 48ft race trailer and now he needs an underdrive unit for his 97 clubcab 5sp 3. 54. Someone told him about a unit made here in so Cal by McBride. Has anyone here had any experience with this unit? Thanks Rod

Just tried a www search for 'mcbride overdrive' and came up with nothing. I suspect that "McBride Automotive" is installing either the US Gear or the Gearvendors overdrive unit. JMHO.

Make sure he does the gov spring kit first. This will widen the powerband enough he may not need the splitter. I have both and find the governor kit makes for the biggest improvement. So far I'm not all that impressed with the extra driveline trash with the USGear. Only benifit I find is lower cruising rpm with my 4:11 rear. If I had 3. 45s I wouldn,t use he 2sp. Of course if he's trying to pull that big trailer with an auto he needs all the help he can get. :{

Tell your buddy he doesnt need the splitter. I pulled enclosed race trailers all over the US with my 95 2500 5spd, 3. 54 with NO troubles except stopping! An exhaust brake helped big time... tell you pal to spend his money on power and dont worry about the lower gears!

Lke the others said. Tell your buddy to add GSK and either slide plate forward or add #11 plate (total bill under $500 versus $1500 or so for spittler). He will have a much better pulling truck that gets better MPG pulling.
