My Mcleod won't hold any longer. It slips BAD in 4th, 5th, and 6th. My options for replacement are (1) replace the disks and have the flywheel resurfaced, or (2) buy a Southbend FE, or (3) buy a "streetable" dual disc from Enterprise. Those are listed in order of expense so if option #1 would work, I would rather do that, but then I don't want to have to do this again in 20,000 miles (that's as long as this one has lasted!). I currently have an HX-40, BD IV's and PE COMP. I just want a clutch that will hold and last, I don't care about rattle. Thanks for the help.

Peters Southbend clutch is holding my power pretty good so far.

We had a truck with the same clutch I use in the dyno event this weekend and his was slipping though. They are both the Con O (organic type) Another truck that went about 550HP had the Con FE and it held good on the dyno as well as the street.

Joes modified Sachs will hold too. A buddy of mine in Houston has the modified Sachs and it held 530HP on the dyno street everyday. Joes holds back Sickly every day at 600 plus.

Lawrence dynoed his truck a bunch the last few weeks and at max power no slipping is occuring.

Mine slips over 480HP on the street (Con O) I may go to Joes Sachs next once I get my HP higher.

There is only one choice at this time for maximum

holding/longlife/streetability.

I drive mine everyday to work, tomorrow, it will be 85 miles, one way.

But first, try ANY of the above clutchs, I will go out on a limb here, and bet you will be back at Enterprise before the summer is out!

LOL!

Signed,

Been there, done that.

hey Gene, looky!!

Takes Gene's Advice :D but start in the middle of your list. and work your way out :D

I give up. that's why i bought an auto. BTW have you seen the Earthroamer thread?

A guy who tore up a Mcclod dual disc in 20,000 miles without? sled pulling would be a good test for ATS!

Just what exactly did you do that thing anyway?:D

Okay, I looked through the "Earthroamer" thread and I saw nothing that I could use. Someone want to point me in the right direction?

Sorry, Sled Puller

I "only" race my truck at every oppourtunity, do rolling burnouts (which don't help the clutch at all) and basically act like a 16 year old kid in this truck. I guess I need to buy a different, cheaper vehicle to act like a juvenile deliquent.

Sounds like me. I shift at about 4300 rpm when I street play and have yet to bust the Southbend. Its the Con O.

Go with a big daddy clutch like the Southbend COn fe or the Donnelly Sachs. I have no experience with the Mitchell pulling clutch.

Now Don, why are you shifting at 4300rpm?

You know your power band stopped way back!!!!

Perhaps you need more cam?:D

Maybe I have more cam and did not let you in on it.

4300 is fun. Destructive and silly, but fun.

A friend of mine tried a centerforce with about 750 Ft/lbs of torque and it wouldn't hold. I've also heard from numerous other members that they won't hold under high "BOMBing" levels.

I had 2 Centerforce Dual Friction clutches before getting the SB. Haven't had it in long enough to say anything bad about it, I will say it holds the power I put to it just fine.

MY .02

BLKDAWDG I think you may know the answer to your own question, even if you dont want to admit it due to the outlay of money, but my opinion is if you have already smoked a dual disc clutch, why go back to single disc???? I think with the driving conditions you describe your safest avenue may be to step up and buy the enterprise pulling clutch. just my . 02

Yikes, was gonna ask what you did to slip the McLeod. . then I read that you were driving like a 16 YOA, still surprised that it's slipping as mine has been sticking like glue with all the TQ I can make. I don't do burnouts with mine but I push it real hard once it's rolling, guess that easing into the powerband helps the clutch's lif expectancy. Sorry to hear and interested to see which you choose, it's not like it was only 1. 5 years ago, not many choices back then.

I've got a question for everybody who has had any clutch trouble and wants a clutch that will hold anything. Would you like the clutch to be the 'weakest link' or would you rather it hook hard and tear up the drive train first. I realize everybody has different pocket$ and does different things with their trucks. Just wondering:)

Woo Hoo ,RPM's and Don M

Oh Baby Don,,Stop your killin me here,,Talk about the price of good entertainment when your at home sick and feeling down, gotta tell ya your it,,Do you always make such silly statements like that or did you read somehwere that you could twist her that hard and still make power????,,Kinda curious here for that answer,,Got one question for ya Don,since your the gotta have it in writing to believe it or its not true guy,HOW DOES YOUR LITTLE MOTOR MAKE POWER WHEN ITS WAY INTO VALVE FLOAT AT 4300 rpm??,,Do you have any idea where your motor starts valve float and how to stop it(and don't try to use the old add a dampening spring inside the valve spring crap to stop it)???,,I got the answers to both,do you??.

Crazy Horse, any time you want a Centerforce clutch I'll gladly send you mine(or whats left of it) to get it out of my garage(its kept as a reminder),,Centerforce may have a good automotive clutch, but, when dealing with high torque numbers they don't have a clue. The McCleod in my truck started slipping about 3k into its life and its about to go bye bye.

So now to the original question, what clutch to buy and not want to change it every xx,xxx amount of miles??,,After myself doing exhaustive research and driving all that are available to us the only one that hooks consistently is the Enterprise clutch,,Never have to worry about it hooking and if your going to complain about noise(rattling) then maybe those should drive a toy-oh-ta instead of a Cummins,,Your truck and your choice

hammer

i don't no about don's truck, but i took a ride in piers truck with his little 160hp pump and it pulled like a frieght train past 4000rpm. i sure couldn't hear and vavle float. and it never quit pulling.
