Hello Guys,

my project is to use a short wb 4x4 Dodge magnum chassis, implant a 12 V Cummins and mount a Scout Traveller body to create a nice running, nice braking solid offroading and boat pulling Scout.

I was offered a ´99 4x4 Ram V8 Magnum rollover for a good price and I wonder if I could replace the stock 5 speed with a six speed or automatic and a powerfull !2V with twins.

The vehicle would be pretty light weight because I plan to use the fiberglass Scout body (all the others rust like hell) so I guess the axles and suspension can take the power of a strong Cummins. I am not sure if the transfer case of a magnum V8 is the same like on a diesel truck.

Does anybody know? What else has to be considered using a swb chassis?

any hints would hepl, here in Europe hardly anybody has a clue regarding US trucks.

drive safely Thomas Tork

Better idea... use a Scout Traveler frame and body. Scouts had a 6 cylinder Nissan Diesel as an option that was almost as long as the Cummins (not quite and no intercooler); The Scout frame is fully boxed and stronger than the channel Dodge frames. The IHC 345 cu. in. V-8s weighed 800+ lbs, so the weight difference is not that great (and the V-8 was pushed out over the front axel). Do a drive train swap, engine, trans, t-case, front/rear axels (narrowed if necessary or flares?). Fitting the engine, radiator, intercooler, and fans will be a little challenge but the Scout firewall is pretty flat and notching for a little more clearance should be easy.

Just a thought... I've been a Scout enthusiast for years.
