A buddy of mine that lives on Bethel Island is looking at a 97 with a cummins and an automatic that is for sale. It has 72,000 miles and he says it looks real clean. He has not asked about maintenance records yet. I had him ask the owner about a few items that concern me. He has not changed the fuel filter, had the valves adjusted or adds a fuel additive. I told him not to go any further until he gets a look at maintenance records and I get back to him regarding a good mechanic. My question today is;

Are there any cummins mechanics in the area that the forum members can recommend? A certified Cummins mechanic at a dealer would be fine also.

As usual, thank you very much,

Steve

The valve adjust and lack of fuel additive don't concern too much. Not changing the fuel filter does and make sure they have the killer dowel pin fixed. Also need to drive it and check the steering for looseness.

Collins Fuel Injection

I would agree that Collins would a good place to start. You would prob want to talk to Adam.
