Watch out for this guy

cummins, a work saver in storm clean up

I after waking up yeterday watched about 4 minutes of rediculous "Great Television" News. Katrina was a 100 year storm. Conditions, Strength, Track and location made for a dissaster that will draw attention for years to come.

First off let me explain how I am in no way trying to downplay any natural disaster, but it comes a point when the media makes it impossible to care at the moment.

First off THE WORD OVERTOPPING DOES NOT EXIST FOR THIS TYPE OF ACTION. A wave spilling over a wall has no other name other than a descriptive event. WATER IS :splashing, pouring, spilling, washing, rushing OR gushing OVER THE WALL.

Second Yeah O. K We get it Hurricanes=Wind Don't be a pretard and stand in it and spew lines like "Oh my god it is so windy it hurts" "Its dangerous out here with debris flying around"

Third Don't look for anything for the sake of reporting and turn it into drama.

Jeraldo's AWESOME moment  of "Oh my god there is a man in the water down there" " Oh My . . wait wait wait I am telling an officer" "Oh my god we are seeing this live a man is down there in the water STRANDED ... . Oh wait he is swimming for his life"

What had happened Jeraldo you Fanny-Smack Is there was a propane tank that had broken free and was banging against the building. To AVOID damage a man swam out there WITH A LIFE VEST ON and tied a line to it so it could be secured. There were men on land/shore/dock that had thrown lines back and fourth to the man and also pulled him in.

I agree, I am sick of it as well. I will tell you that while I was watching some reporter tell me it was windy while the wind was nearly blowing him away, I was thinking "man I hope some piece of sideing or a big tree branch or something wacks the heck out of that guy on live TV! That would be hilarious!!!!!!

'Hilarious' might not be the best term; 'poetically just' and 'ironic' (especially if a piece of airborne iron or steel does the whacking) would likely be more appropriate.

I can't remember the last time we turned the TV on here. There's just nothing on worth watching.

I see your point, but it would be hilarious to me!

Jim Cantone of the Weather Channel was reporting from Morgan City Monday morning and said (don't recall his exact words) something like "There's trees & power lines above the ground!"

Dunno 'bout y'all, but that's where I prefer mine to be.

Wow, learn something new everyday!!! :-laf

I remember when The Weather Channel first originated they had 2 sponsers. One was tire chains.

We get a lot of tornados here in Alabama. When I need to see the weather conditions or radar TMC is showing "one of there drama series, "storm stories"ect. I was so upset that I sent TWC an e-mail asking that they do not air their stories when bad weather is upon us. I even told them there stories were nice, but after all "you are the weather channel and we need weather reports". I also asked "when is TWC going to air a story about someone who lost their life because TWC was showing stories and not keeping the public informed"

This is their reply.

Good morning,

Thank you for your email message and interest in The Weather Channel.

I will forward your email message, expressing your concerns the absence of the “Local on the Eights” feature, during “Storm Stories” and other long-form programming, to our producers and programming directors. It certainly concerns everyone at The Weather Channel that you find the airing of these programs so objectionable; especially during times of severe weather.

The Weather Channel values your loyalty and taking the time to contact us. We do take the concerns of our viewers very seriously. Because of that seriousness, someone at The Weather Channel (Research Department) may want to follow up this contact to better understand your concerns. With this in mind, we would like to receive at least one piece of the following identifiable information:

Name:

Home Phone Number:

Email Address:

Street address:

Cable Provider:

We are always happy to hear from our viewers and hope you will continue to watch The Weather Channel for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Chris Hoitsma

Hey that's how the Weather Man/Women keep there jobs done here. Hurricanes lets them show you what they were trained to do.

When it's dry season all they can say it's "Going to be sunny and warm for 4 months. Oops I forgot about the brush fires and unexpected tornados they get a little excited about them too.

Lucky for me my business even though its on low land it drains well. My mom's house sits higher then most and Winter Park FL has been working on the drains since 2004. I don't think there was any flooding in Winter Park during Fay, And It Did Rain!!!!Oo.

( Thursday duiring the day in Oviedo the sod fields were green Friday morning the fields had become a nice lake with white caps. Its taken over a week for the fields to drain. )

One news channel said they, "Make the News", thought that very original, nothing to report make up a story, aside for standing chest deep on flooded street, probably to prove the street was flooded, granted he may have been kneeling for greater effect. The worst I ever saw was of a flood in Africa, people crowed on patches of high ground, just as islands, there were very few boats in the area so what helicopters were available were brought into service, the numbers far from adequate to rescue so many. It was BBC news reporting from a helicopter, giving details of the flood, saying how bad it was and as many details as he possibly could about 50 feet above the doomed people, he said that they would try and bring some on board but couldn't possibly save many, all this while the flood waters were raising, next the helicopter is landed, he steps ashore, (mandatory??? for a reporter? cameraman, sound engineer and all willing party,) and goes on covering what he had already said with the microphone stuck half way up his nose. Has the Whole World gone Mad? sure seems like it. Honesty, if on a mission of mercy without all his hot air you cold see all that was happening perhaps more of those stranded could have been saved. In cases like that, that's when I believe the reporter should be reporting from the studio and just send a cameraman.

I realize this is a off the subject of the thread, but What gets me is when the local news stations distrupt the programs with a live shot of some 2 time loser parolee, stole a car and is being chased at hi speed on the local freeways.

I have found my fastest weather news from listening to the Hamm radio operaters on my scanner. I have got a tornado warning 4 minutes ahead of the NOAH weather alert radio.

They take weather serious. If you have a scanner, find a Hamm operator and he or she will gladly give you their frequency.

The biggest waste of money I have is my satellite receiver subscription. I pay $40 a month to watch television MAYBE once or at most twice a month. I only keep it so it is there if I ever DO decide to watch it. I get my news from the local news/talk stations that run Boortz and Hannity's shows.

This storm was WAY over-hyped.

It seems they were almost dissapointed when New Orleans didn't get wiped off the map this time.

A side note Ray Nagin should be in jail.

I am also disappointed it was not wiped off the map.

I am not. When those government leeches are flooded out of New Orleans, they latch on and start their life of crime fresh in another city. Let them stay in their below sea level cesspool to fight and steal among each other! We don't want them!

I would like the residents to go with New Orleans. Same with most of California.
