Camp Lejeune Area Guys

Looking for any events around Norfolk, VA

Southeast Power of Tampa, FL has offered to host a meet on Jun 17th for all those interested. If you can make it please let me or reply on the forum, so I can let them know how many to prepare for.

Its about 2 years since we were there and they have some interesting things to talk about.

Hope to see a crowd

:D :D

Anyone else coming

Best offer we've had in a long time. Southeast Power puts on a good presentation. So come on and let me and SouthEest Power know you are coming on June the 17th at 10AM or so.

This should be really GOOD! These guys KNOW what they are doing!

I'm going regardless to pickup an order of filters.

IF anyone needs a place to stay overnight on the 16th, we have some room at our house. Let me know, Winter Haven, about an hour from Tampa.

I would like to go. I was at the one down south more in fort myers area about 2 months ago, for some parts. What are they going to be doing on the 17th?

Dick,

I think that the Orlando SEP facility is the VP44 rebuild center. Could you ask Tampa if that is true, and if so that a VP knowledgeable tech guy be available?

Usual things like:

what fails,

what do they see as internal dammage and what causes it,

what about the LSD, ULSD, biodiesel other than Bosch's position of do not do it,

0216 codes and culprits that cause that,

after working on fuel system purging air how critical you get ALL (EVERY bit) vs as much as you can and the VP handle a small amount (how much air can the VP handle routienely),

after engine shutdown VP (PSG) heat soaking,

fuel psi range of input acceptable,

what is exactely the fuel path internally,

how is the PSG cooled exactely (and what are its temp limits),

how much heat does the VP add to the input fuel and how does that heat get dissapated,

are there changes that NEED to be made to the Dodge fuel system to help the VP have a long life (we make a lot of changes, but what really NEEDS to be done),

where is this diaphram that fails that can only be deflected +- 2. 5mm or it causes seal dammage,

how EXACTELY is timing done and what throws the 0216,

what is the 0216 code anyway (other than the obvious VP timing error),

what gets rebuilt when a rebuild is done (can you get a more complete rebuild for more $$),

what are the Bosch upgrades since the orgional VP's were installed in 98. 5,

guys are carrying spare VP's like they do lp's (is this necessary?, if so can a new unused VP rebuild be exchanged yearly so you know you have all the latest upgrades if you have to install that spare VP)

It might not be possible, but sure would like to get into the really nitty gritty of the VP.

Thanks,

Bob Weis

What else needs to be added to the list?

IF I could, I would take some of my hot air (and my temp gun) and get into the fuel system and ride it through the internals of the VP44 and see what is really happening taking component temperatures and internal operating part pictures as I rode through the internal system and document this flippen pump we users keep trying to figuer out.

THEN we would KNOW what we are working with.

but you are right, no thought put in on this at all

A little more tweaking and I will have the fuel temp worked out.

The input fuel cooler is a H7B and because it is a flat plate cooler I can not control the path of the fuel and I think I am not getting all the cooling I could get with a tube type cooler. I am going to change the H7B to a fin and tube cooler.

The mist on the frame rail coolers is getting blown away as the speed increases. I am going to go back to an enclosed tubing forced air blower on the frame rail coolers to keep the mist ON the coolers and air flow going during no ram air (stopped at a stop light, in traffic etc) engine operation.

I THINK that I can reasonably say that the PSG electronic package temperature SHOULD be somewhere between the input fuel temperature that flows under the PSG embedded plate at the input cavity of the VP44 and the EBC temperature that is the cover to the PSG. That much I am reasonably sure. IF THAT IS TRUE then my PSG is running about OAT + 5* during engine operation and not more than OAT +10* during engine shutdown heat soak.

Another 250k miles and I will have good data :-laf

As I remember, as you go in on 60 into Tampa they are on the left after 301 but their sign is not huge. It is sort of an industrial area, 1 story buildings, general address #'s are visable on the buildings in large numbers.

Start Times

FYI, there is a map on page one with the address of 6615 Adamo Drive. That is Hwy 60. The meet time is 9 AM till 11 or so. So hope everyone can make the 9 AM start time as SE Power has asked for start time. CU will there at 9 AM. This just means an earlier start for some of us.

Is it Saturday yet???????

9:00 works for me. There's nothing better than getting up before sunrise, firing up the mighty Cummins and hitting the road - listening to the music coming from under the hood for an hour or so then pulling off for a big breakfast at Waffle House. Man, it'll be like I'm on vacation! Oo. And could I ever use a vacation.

Looking forward to it. If you see any other Dodge's on the way hook 'em up and drag 'em along1
