Which one would do you like better/prefer? I am thinking of buying a mega cannon. I have been running a bhaf and will use the mallory mount that I have. I am only worried about dust. I live in a very dusty area.

K&N FIPK, a lot of $$$ but it has a smooth bore hose into the turbo. I think it is everybit as good or better than the AFE megacannon.

Were I to do it again I would really like to try that Volant system, It looks sweeeeeet..... smooth bore into the turbo plus enclosed.

Hi All, Not being happy with the stock air system after i installed the 4 inch exhaust it felt like it was running out of air. I didn't want a oiled filter because i think they suck dirt, also i didn't want a BHAF but liked the idea of a paper fleetguard filter so i called my local cummins dealer and asked them to look for a filter like the AH19037 BHAF but in a smaller size. I Just installed it today and i was very happy with the extra preformance and lack of black out the tailpipe. I also got a heat shield for it. The heat shield is made from a 8"dia polished (of course) stainless steel stove pipe about 18 ga, cost 25. 00. The filter is 8 1/2 dia by 11" long wire wraped with a 4" inside dia outlet and the stock hose fit great. Its a fleetguard AH 1141 cost 32. 00 retail. 28. 00 if you are a power booster. Hope this helps . Richard

I think I would stick with the BHAF. If you are not having problems with EGT then whay change and spend $250 or more for somthing that looks better I did a little test here in AK where we have a good bit of dust and found that the BHAF, Stock filter and KN RE0880 all gave me about the same silicone numbers in my oil samples. I really thing that the BHAF does a better job as it is a paper filter and I can't see through it.

If you are really worried get an Outterwears Wrap for your BHAF. They are inexpensive compared to a new system. Just tell em you have an AH19037 and they will know what you are talking about.

Oil Ape, the stock hose is smooth on the inside where it counts

I would try a Mega Cannon first, everything I have read/come across says it flows the most air..... period. Do some oil samples to check the silcon and if its passing dirt at all try the BHAF. I am positive you'll have no trouble selling the Mega Cannon slightly used.

Thats what I would do.

I currently run an AFE filter in my ram air box... ... . just ordered a Mega Cannon cone... for some experiments that are up coming :D

Some ranting and raving from the peanut gallery.

-- I have the aFe Mega Cannon. Flows a ton of air. But is loud. w/o the silencer ring in there it sounds like a 747 spooling up down at the airport. -- The wife says she does not mind it so this is how I run:D

-- Also have one of the Outerwears racing sleeves to go over the aFe. I think aFe now sells them, with their logo. I dont like it. Installed it again 2 weeks ago after picking up my truck from other BOMBs. For a few days I was actually thinking the other mods sucked. The PDR 35 turbo was simply not as snappy as it used to be. Boost was rising a little slower than normal. Then I got the idea to take off the sleeve and now its nice and snappy again.

-- Tried a K&N Re-0880 with one of those big foam pre-filter socks once. I dont think these flow as much air. But this was also quiet. Not sure how much the pre-filter muffles noise. But I could hardly hear the turbo at all. One of these with a JRE cold air intake would be less than the Mega Cannon, better than stock and much quieter. -- heard a bunch about collapse problems right them, which is why I leaned towards the mega cannon. the deeper pleats are supposed to prevent collapsing.

-- Never tried a BHAF version. The dont flow as much air. Much better than stock. Great for the "no oil" fans. Not for high power trucks. Gonna take some heat here, but I watched trucks at BD dyno says last april running 500-600 with a BHAF and you want to talk about collapse. That baby was getting sucked down big time.

-- Of course all of these are filters that can suck hot air from within the engine compartment. They have shields, but always gotta wonder how well they really work.

-- Of course the Scotty systems are good for getting outside air. But at the cost of putting all that noise basically right into the passenger compartment. I have ridden in them. For those that say its not bad, I say you are trying to convince yourself the $$$ you spend was worth it.

-- The volant system looks interesting as it has a free flowing filter and is enclosed. So where to they get their air supply from. They try to suck it all in thru the factory hole? Would like to hear more about these.

-- So In my book the perfect air intake system has yet to be found.

-- I was going to delete this, then decided I did too much typing to do that. So flame away.

The Volant Can Be found MUCH CHEAPER than Jc Whitney *cough* Rip~Off *cough* and Draws air from the COWL area AND the factoey intake as well. It uses an aFe Filter and all in all is a High Quality unit. Smooth Bore , Silicone connections and mounts using the factory hardware in the factory locations.

Just wanted something different as the Scotty and Megacannon are also what I was looking for but a hit for the team along with R&D helps us all out. You can OPT to cut the hole for the cowl or just leave it be as I did. there was NO change in EGT between the Volant AND the BHAF so Flow is there.

Kat,

I have been running with the BHAF for about two months. It is the second one. I ran the K&N in the stock spot for about three months in between the two. The K&N let me get a little hotter in the egt gauge. The new BHAF is with the HX40. I can still hit 1400* but that is with the drag comp on 5x5 and @ 95 mph. So I am not to worried about the EGT's anymore. The turbo has cured that. I just don't want to buy a new filter every six months at the cost of a BHAF. Will a Mega Cannon hook up to the stock inlet tube? I am thinking of getting just the filter because I already have a BHAF mount. I think it will work fine. Thanks again,Greg
