I was just looking through my fourwheeler magazine and was reading up on the megacab and it said that the truck will be based on the 2500(we already knew that) but that it will be offered as a 1500. They went on to say that the 1500 would have a solid front axle, I guess because it is based on the 2500. Does not seem to me anyway why they would make a 1500 out of it unless they use softer springs and stuff. What do you guys think??

The funnier part is the GVWR:

1500 Mega - 8510 (Hemi only, puts it over that magic 8500 that would require EPA mpg numbers)

2500 Mega - 8800 Hemi, 9000 Cummins

3500 Mega - 9900 (Cummins only)

All three rigs within 1400 pounds of each other, and the 2500 less than 300 pounds more than the 1500 when using the Hemi... what a waste. But marketing dictates that, because the half-ton is the largest seller, you MUST have the cab selection sold as a "1500" to compete with the F150, C/K1500, Tundra, and Titan. The people who look at that class truck won't notice or care what the GVWR is.

I doubt that the 1500 frame would support the mega-cab, so they put it on a 2500 frame and call it a 1500. The usefull load on the 1500 mega-cab has to be pretty sad.

Agreed. The "1500" is essentially a slightly lighter duty 2500.

Chevy did this too - the 1500HD was equivalent to their "old" 2500 before the current 2500HD. It's all marketing.

These figures are from the same people who printed that Diesel Power magazine, that says, gen3 trucks have a 5 speed auto transmission too... ..... :-laf
