MegaCab manual shift 4wd

Can you get a Mega Cab with a manual shift 4WD transfer case? The website doesn't say and the book I got from a salesman says it's not an option. I want a manual trans, manual shift T-CASE mega cab SLT. Anyone know if Dodge will build this?

Since MegaCab's are only SLT & higher, I'm going to say that the manual shift 4wd transfer case will be a no-go. I even looked at a few G-56 MegaCab's on Kernersville's website and they're equipped with electronic transfer cases.

I would not sweat an electronic transfer case. I had one in my 2007.5 RAM 3500 MegaCab Laramie SRW and it gave me ZERO issues.

I don't know for sure on the 4th gens Megacab, but on my 3rd gen 4WD Megacab the ductwork for the rear seat vents runs through the console under the spot where the lever would be. I think that's the reason that there is no option for a manual shift transfer case on that model.

Know what's odd??? I've actually viewed a few Tradesman's on Kernersville's sight that were optioned with electronic shift transfer cases.

Yes, I think it may be a stand alone option that can be ordered. I was looking at the window sticker of a DRW Tradesman a few days ago that had the electric-shift case listed as one of the 'options'.

If the above is correct:

-Only a Tradesman can have a manual transfer case

-A Tradesman might have an electric-shift tranfer case

Bizarre thing about my "manual shift" transfer case.....

Once as I was getting a bit of hop in a corner when using 4x4 (wet roads) I tried to shift out of 4x4 to calm the hop.

The shift moved, but the hop continued through the corner until I straightened out the front wheels. Does that mean that the front axle engagement is partly electric? Or is it just the front differential lock up that is electric? Pretty sure I don't have the vacuum actuated front axle in my 2013.

The 2013 2500's (old frame style) didn't receive the CAD like the 2013 3500's (new frame style) did. The 2500's received the CAD and new frame / coil rear suspension in 2014.

On occasion......your shift out of 4WD would have been better suited by going 100% straight and / or backing up a few feet after the shift out of 4WD.

Were you in 4WD simply because the road was wet???

It was probably the pressure holding the transfer case mechanism from releasing, my 07 and 04.5 has stuck in 4X4, to include the dash icon lit up until I shifted to neutral and put the transfer case shifter in neutral then back into 2X4 position. It's made me want to check now, to check the dash icon when I shift out of 4X4.

It was raining hard and there were puddles/standing water on the road. But there was no standing water when i was turning.

My experience with the Firestone HT's that came standard as OEM tire was horrible on wet roads. So I did use 4x4 on wet roads with those tires. The owners manual says you can.

The firestone AT's that i have now have significantly better traction. And i don't need 4x4 on wet roads. I figured with the HT's, if i was spinning out and the road was wet, it wouldn't put stress on the drivetrain to use 4x4.

With the HT's i couldn't even get up a wet parking garage ramp unloaded. If i didn’t have 4x4, i would have had to have everyone behind me on the ramp back down the ramp into a busy 4 lane city street. I was completely stopped and spinning my rear wheels on that ramp. I put it in 4x4 and had no probs.

Yeah, i wonder if there is a stiff spring in the linkage to protect itself from fools like me.

Good suggestions. But this is the first time i've had a manual shift transfer case. My previous 4x4 had electronic engagement.

It is easy to shift between 2x4 & 4x4 at 50 mph. And since i was new to a manual shift T/C, I was learning.

According to the 2016 Ram 2500/3500 sales brochure you cannot get a manual shift transfer case with any SLT. The last few pages of that brochure list many (all?) options available on the 2016 Rams. Under Mechanical Features you'll find Transfer Cases (4x4 models only). The chart shows the manual transfer case is available for only the Tradesman Regular/Crew and the Power Wagon Crew .

Like you, I prefer a manual-shift transfer case, especially with a manual transmission, but Ram apparently feels that we should remain frustrated in this.

But the 2016's get 1 mpg more than my 2013 because they have the front axle disconnect. Not dependent on the electric/manual engagement.

I have the ST (not SLT), which according to my insurance company is the tradesman.

When I was ordering my 07 C&C, the fleet manager had all different options then the website had when I was actually ordering it with a down payment in hand. I would still contact the fleet manager with your questions.

My experience with the firestones so far is that the AT's are way better than the HT's on any sort of wet surface. But neither wears well in the long haul.

I'd say 25,000-30,000 miles and you have less than 1/8 inch tread.

Might want to re-read your owner's manual......I don't think a wet, paved road falls into the "loose" category. Post #4 kinda sums it up.
