Competition Oh My Gosh Piers

Off Roading Beware 4wheel Parts!

anybody running megamental injectors?i put a set in my 2001 & they run great. my question is should they smoke more than a set of dd 111s?my old injectors were dd111s & they smoked just as much as the mega mentals. dont get me wrong they smoke like hell until the boost comes up then they clean out & dont smoke at all at full boost (38 psi). i can feel a power increase with the mentals not sure how much i havnt dynoed it again. this is with the nitrous off. see my sig for goodies. any replies will be helpful. thanks kurt.

Propuller... I have a set of mega-mentals, however, they are not used for every day use. These injectors put out a lot of fuel, and without enough boost will smoke like hell. In addition, your fuel mileage will suffer. These injectors are primarly designed for Dyno competion, or perhaps drag racing, for wide open use. You will get more HP with these "puppies" , however, be prepared to pay the price at the pump for everyday driver or extended travel.

thanks for the reply steve. i realize these injectors are for race purposes only as my truck sees very little street use. i was wondering how much smoke if any do you see with yours at wide open throttle & full boost. like i said before they dont smoke any more than the 3s did. is this normal or do you think i have something else wrong. i have a pusher pump & maintain 9psi at wot this is with the comp drag on 5/5. my egt hit a max temp of 1400 i also have the hx40x16 & 4inch exhaust. this is about the temp my 3s would hit. my thought is bigger injectors should smoke more & create more heat. i want smoke for the nitrous. i will try to get to the dyno later this week to obtain some numbers so i have some facts to deal with. anybody have any thoughts about the lack of smoke lets hear it. please. Oo.

Propuller. . I have about the same set-up as you do and you should see much more smoke at WOT then DD3's... You will see more at lower speeds etc. because your boost will be down and you will be fueling more. With the increased fueling, you will be able to push a little more NOs then with DD3's. Don't inject NOS until you achieve approx. 25psi + boost levels. Also, Start off with low jet sizes, and increase as long as you see smoke at WOT. .

Another problem is, you have maximized your turbo and will not get suggnificant HP gains with the HX-40 max. safe boost is at 45psi. With NOS, you can push a wastgated HX-40 to 50psi or higher and sooner or later at those levels your turbo will go!!

What I'm trying to say is, by up-grading your injectors for more fuel, you need to also up-grade your turbo to handle the additional fuel and boost to get the best performance...

I know, been there done that! The problem with a larger turbo, is lag increases at bottom end. Its a catch 22. That's why a lot of guys are going to twins, to reduce lag, increase spool-up time and run higher boost levels to take advantage of increased fueling.

I hope this helps you, as you are at the threshold with your current set-up.

thanks for all the info steve it means alot to a guy trying to figure all this stuff out. i realize that im pushing my luck with the hx40 & im planning on doing a turbo upgrade again maybe the hybrid hx50 from piers that is being talked about on this sight or perhaps the b1 from kwik kurt. but im still not sure why my smoke level with the mentals is down. at this point i have not pushed my turbo past 38 psi & i have not injected any nitrous. what your saying is that the nos will raise the boost pressure beyond the 38 that i have it set at now. ive heard of faulty map sensors that are causing the ecm to cut back fuel do you think this might be my lack of smoke. thanks for all the help. kurt. :)

Kurt,

Sounds like you are having fun! Your smoke should be lower with the cool dense air of winter. The MM's will behave differently in the dog days of summer. Ask me how I know :) :). Larry

larry yes i am having fun & what your saying about the cold winter air makes sense. i put the mm in and went for a couple wot blasts down the road this is when i noticed the lack of smoke but both times the air temp was somewhere between 20 & 30 degrees f. just for fun though how do you know?i realy appreciate all the help guys. kurt.

prop,I dont have mega mentals, but my bully dog 7's are similarly sized to the mega mentals. I went from dd3's to bd7,s in the summer, man those 7's smoke! With the comp on 1x1 with a B1 in the summer I couldnt clear all the smoke, but 3 months later,as the air got colder,it didnt smoke much at all, very controllable in the cool air,on 1x1,on 5x5 it still smoked like a freight train. With Nitrous you and mm's you will quickly grenade your HX40,I suprised your even going to try it,and waste a good turbo. I would think that with only an HX40 you would see a ton of smoke with the fueling box on kill. I honestly thought id gain more power than i did by switching fron dd3's to BD7's,there was a gain, just not as much as I though. I need more air/twins now.
