hello all... ... .

i hear alot of talk about egt's and melting stuff if ya go over the edge with fuel. i've never herd anyone have an actual experiance doing this. if any of you have a story of doing this i'd love to hear it! thanks... ... ... . james

I seen pictures awhile back on here. I think it was somebody with a 12v and no gauges using some bigger injectors. It was either at DD or?? I can't remember the name, another company by/in? Nevada getting fixed. Anyways the pictures were posted... Man what a bad looking sight. Pretty sure I'd be teary eyed if that was my motor. I'll try to find them.

I don't remember the story behind this one, but here are a couple pix of a 24 valve.

Jack Nutter (aka Shooter now?) had a meltdown on his 24V towing a trailer up a grade. He was BOMBed but had a faulty EGT gauge that read too low. It started knocking and he damaged cyl #1 or #6 (not sure).

I've seen lots of busted pistons and cracked heads, but never had a personal expericance with that on a Cummins. Ford 7. 3's and GM 6. 5's are notorious for cracked psitons when they get too hot.

If I remember correctly, Jack Nutter had just a VA and maybe a set of injectors on the truck... I think he had the Mopar uprate ECM as well.

I have seen one 5. 9 piston that had the China Syndrome occur... It was NASTY to say the least. Dodge replaced the transmission, because they thought the "strange knock" was coming from a broken TC. Ended up needing a whole new longblock from Cummins.

***BTW, that is cyl #6 in those pics above.

Man if that was mine I'd bury the evidence and start over. Those kinds of pictures give me nightmares. Had a few big and small Mopars do that to me over the years and didn't enjoy one of them. Still have a 383 12. 5 piston around here I look at once in a while and my friends still can remember it. Yuck! That was almost 20 years ago!

Piston Meltdown

I work at UPS and we lost a perfectly good 12 valve mainly because the fuelers always shine on checking the fluids and the driver traveling on U. S. 101 at full governed speed in 5th(73mph+or-) ran it overheated until it lost power and seized. The thing had #6 melted and a few others on their way! The engine only had about 115,000 miles on it. $10,000 later, good as new. Spend a Dollar to save A Dime!!!  Chris

Bad Memories

I'm not gonna be able to sleep tonight if you keep showing this awful stuff. I'll try and find that 383 piston and take a pic of it and the banana shaped rod it was married to. Talk about a match made in h@$$.

well almost daily, I saw a little over 1850 today racing/passing a empty v10 dodge with 3 bikes in the back of mine today. .

I limit these exteam temps to under 15 seconds. My odometer says 153k as of today and is extreamly shy of truth. Otherwise I stay below 1300 but stay there for sometimes hours.

Melted #5, VA was the only bomb besides the low reading Autometer pyro.
