Hiya folks -

I have a transmission for sale in our local Colorado CL, and I've had a 'too good to be true' offer from a person names Daniel Bill on Corral Lane un Salt Lake City. Now while I'd love to believe there are people in this world who would make a full-price offer as well as arrange for pickup/delivery, but I'd sure like to know of anyone over there in Utah would jst happen to know Daniel and could reassure me that he's 1) real, and 2) not a scammer?

Help? Thanks,

- Sam

If your instinct tells you something is odd about the prospect or the deal I would recommend caution. The world if full of internet scammers who spend their time devising new scams for craigslist and ebay buyers and sellers.

yah my instinct tells me it's some sort of scam - no one offers to pay full price for something several states away, then offers to arrange pickup and delivery at their own dime. I mean I know a built A-518 is worth having but not that badly...

Basic rule for trades

Mad Max, You've been doing this for a while, so just a reminder. Money up front. When the check clears, you ship. No deviations. I prefer USPO money order. or bank check from a known institution. However, the check or MO clears first. You can deal with most folks that way. Those that resist or want to change/renegotiate your terms are wasting your time.

PayPal works, but it also has a processing fee.

What ever fits your business model! Hopefully you have a good customer and you have cash in hand before the pickup is scheduled! GregH

You have to be real careful. I buy/sell a lot on craigslist. Usually a scammer will first email you to see if the item is still available. Once you confirm, they usually say something along the lines of "I'm out of town on business, so I can't pay cash, only a bank check. " Then they'll say that once the funds clear, their "shipper" will come and pick it up. They have figured out how to counterfeit bank checks, postal money orders, etc. Usually it takes the bank a couple of days for it to come back, and by the time your bank tells you it's fake, your stuff is long gone. Paypal is legit, but scammers have found out how to fake emails from Paypal saying you received money. Make sure you actually log into to Paypal and look at your account to make sure the money is there. Any other service similar to Paypal is usually a scam.
