Thanks,
I've considered doing that, and it is not a bad idea. The problem comes when you realize that our sig. URLs are posted as static text (unlike the left column profile info).
So , for example when researching some old topic you come across a person's web URL in his signature. A double click and WHAMMO you get a nice 404 error because the site changed between then and now... #ad
If the live profile data had a link to our websites, this would be a non-issue. Or, if we could like to same bit of profile data from our sig. then the issue would go away.
In the last example, one's sig would hold a hyperlink to a link in the profile process on the TDR. Any change would always be reflected even on old archived threads...
There is a 'homepage' spot in the profile. Can't the left column display a button to allow us to link readers to our site.
I would think this might cut down on some of the signature load.
(left column to me means the area where our user name and location shows up on every post)
Hello,
I would love to see you all create one section for members to post information about their own sites that are related to the TDR. In my case I am doing battle with my website provider and have no clean way to post to the members that my URL has changed once again. #ad
Several thoughts on this one.
First, how about a free url direct service? Give out a short, simple address and change where the short url redirects to when your domain changes. Check out V3 for your own go. to/DavidVT domain. There are many other free redirects also.
As far as the button to redirect to the author's homepage, check out UBB 6. 0, they have exactly what you are asking for. Try this page at Ford-Diesel, go down to Brent-Dis's post and try the button that looks just like this. #ad
Or even try this very button, it will do exactly the same here as it does on that page. Of course UBB 6. 0 doesn't seem to be working to well over there though. #ad
