While attending Speed Weeks in Daytona a few weeks ago, I visited "Dodge City" where I saw a 3500 dually with the high output engine and a new Mercedes 6 speed automatic transmission. The man I talked with is a rancher that was given the truck to give the new auto and HO engine a good work out and try an break it too.

Has anyone head of the new automatic transmission from Mercedes?

Is there such a thing?

Is there such a thing as a Mercedes 6-speed auto?

Or just the 6-speed manual.

I can't find any info on the web about such an automatic transmission.

Mercedes 6 Speed Auto

Don't know if this is the same thing, but heard on the radio yesterday that Dodge is releasing a new van for the commercial market. The "Splinter"?

It's said to have an optional Mercedes engine and transmission.

I am in the process of getting two of those Sprinters. They are currently under the freightliner name but moving to a dodge dealer near you soon. As far as I can tell the only engine transmission combo is the mercedes 5 cylinder common rail with a vgt turbo and a mercedes 5speed automatic transmission. They are pretty snappy, butt ugly but who cares for a delivery van. Would probably make a good camper van as well. 2 roof heights, 3 wheelbases and even dualies if you needem.

I had someone today swear up and down that they saw it on the dealers computer screen that he was ordering a 6 speed allison.

WELL!

After reading all the above, the picture is clear as mud... . :p ;) :D

Looks like we have a 5 cylinder Mercedes engine with a 6-speed Allison transmission in some sort of van... :-laf :-laf :-laf

This six speed auto stuff seemed familiar so I checked and there is an article in issue 34(TDR) page 12 that pictures a 2nd generation with a Mercedes engine and a six speed auto(G85)! Maybe a 375hp 690 lb ft cummins with a six speed auto "special tow package", sounds good to me.

No Mercedes trans !!!!!!!

We better hope Dodge doesn't put a Mercedes behind our CTD. Mercedes trans I have dealt with are difficult to work on and very expensive. The parts available for most are very "dealer only" in most cases. You just think upgrading a 47RE or repairing it is expensive. For my part, no thank you. MY . 02.

BENZ TRANS

I AM GOING ON THE DEFENSE FOR THE GERMANS, I PERSONALLY OWN A 02 S430 VERY WONDERFUL CAR NOW MIND YA IT IS NOT A TRUCK. BUT THE ENGINEERING IN THE THING IS ABSOLUTELY AWSOME. REMEMBER IF IT WASNT FOR THE GERMANS THIER WOULD BE KNOW DIESEL. I AM VERY GLAD MOPAR AND BENZ HAVE HOOKED UP TOGEATHER I THINK TOGEATHER THEY WILL MAKE A GREAT TRUCK EVEN BETTER. Oo. Oo.

I was killing time the other day, looking through a Consumer Reports car issue. They listed the S430 as a used car to stay away from . Had several other Mercedes models listed. I've owned several Mercedes in the past and they are wonderful automobiles. I'm beginning to think you can't believe anything you read in these automobile magazines. :(

BENZ

YA PIT I GOT THE SAME MAG I DO NOT GO TO MUCH BY REVIEWS

WHAT THEY DID SAY WAS BAD ABOUT THE BENZ IS OFF COURSE PRICE BEING THE BIG FACTOR AND ALL OF THE ELETRICAL COMPUTER DRIVEN STUF IT HAS AND ENGINE NOT BEING FAST ENOUGH. EVERYONE HAS THIER OPIONION. BUT I SPENT A MANY YEAR IN GERMANY I WAS ABLE TO VIST THE FACTORYS OF SEVERAL DIFFRENT AUTOMAKERS THIER. I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH HOW THEY DO THINGS THEY ARE VERY SERIOUS PEOPLE WHEN IT COMES TO BULIDING A VEHICLE. ALSO THIER TRUCKS WHICH OF COURSE ARE HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS ARE BUILT VERY WELL I HAVE SEEN THEM ON A MANY TIME HAULING M1 ABRAM TANKS AROUND FOR ARE GOVERMENT. LIKE I SAID I WAS VERY HAPPY WHEN MOPAR TEAMED UP WITH BENZ. BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.

Don't forget the VGturbo Gary.

Was looking at the Sprinter yesterday (not at a good dealer to deal with, in my opinion, but has one for display) and it would make a good camper van base with the high roof. Couldnt find any stickers for wt or other info tho. 5cyl diesel w/5spd auto - only config for the power currently. Pics/etc on the DC site, no pricing yet. This overseas built van frees up the Dodge van line for ???? (my guess, the 4500/5500 trucks - HOPE/HOPE/HOPE)

I had heard somewhere that there were a few dodge trucks out now with a Mercedes built motor sitting in the engine compartment and not a CTD. A salesman I know says that he actually saw one out there on the road. I don't know maybe it is just rumor. I hope so.

2 years ago my D. C. rep said what was in the works was a "monster" Daimler diesel and auto trans for Dodge trucks. That the Cummings and Chrysler built trans would be a standard unit and Daimler built engine and trans would be a option. That rumor as well as a 450/550/650 series truck was brought up in the discussion. Time will tell.
