Diesels Kill People!!!

HI to all members

I am a mechanic for a freightliner dealer on long island and i see

the new mercedes engines every day and work on them. From my point of view from working on them they are JUNK! They are pushing them and trying to sell them. If i was a customer i would not want one of these engines in my truck!!!! I will stick with either a Cummins or a Cat engine for the reason they do not have as many problems as these engines do. The most common problem with these engines is turbo failures and eletrical components going bad. I hope that we will get rid of the new SPRINTER,another piece of junk,they have a lot of problems with the EGR system components going bad, and they end up being towed in. I am a happy owning the DODGE with the CUMMINS in it. I would like to shoot the engineries for there design on the mercedes because they put the drain plug for the oil on the left side rear of the oil pan about 3in from the axile. try getting a oil drain bucket there is a hassle since we use a cut 55 gal drum. To change the oil filter is a joke because they route the upper rad hose and the overflow lines right over the oil filter housing,you have to take off the over flow hose bracket and force the upper rad hose out of the way just to get the filter out. Another thing is if you loose the prime on the fuel system GOOD LUCK!!! you have to pressurize the fuel tank,and crack the fuel lines to the injectors to re pressurize the system. then you have to crank the hell out of it and always kill the batteries before you get it fired. these are some of the problems i have encountered while working at the dealer. I am sure there are more to come. This is my opinion on the mercedes engine. I think that mercedes should stick to cars only and stay out of the truck world

I agree those engines are not worth having in a truck. I'm looking at a Med-Duty, and took F-liner off the market, unless I could find an older truck. The other draw back with this engine is you have to go to a dealer to have work done. Not the best when you're on the road and can't find a F-liner dealer.

I also agree I work on those stupid engines every day. Even changeing a fuel filter can be a nightmare sometimes when you go to start it. What do we do

Do you guys have any experience with the new "G-56" 6-sp transmission that is now being installed in the Dodges? I understand that it, also, is a Mercedes product.

Thank You.

The owner of iRV2.com is in the process of having a new ShowHauler motor home custom built. He started by ordering a new Freightliner. When it came in a few days ago, the truck dealer was going to deliver it to the ShowHauler plant. Long story short - the truck never made it. It blew a head gasket on its nifty Mercedes diesel engine! :{

Something to keep in mind when discussions focus on a "perfect" this, or "foolproof" that...

About the time someone DOES make something "foolproof", Nature provides a better FOOL! ;) :D
