Merle Haggard was truly one of the best in country music. I put him up there with Hank Williams, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Eddy Arnold and others. We saw him performed in Breckenridge, CO 20 years ago. Rest in Peace Merle.
I've attended 2 MH concerts in my lifetime and he looked dead back then. Pretty cool that a guy that lived that long the way he did.... I chuckle when I listen to some songs about being in prison, when ole MH was actually in prison and tried to break out of one. Merle was no poser.
George Jones, Merle, before long I'll just delete all the country stations on my radio's and learn how to use the iPhone for music. I do realize that today's music isn't meant to be "My Music", I'm not the target audience. But since the wife likes many of today's pseudo "country" singers I agreed to watch the CMA's last week....couldn't do it. The worst was Miranda Lambert and ZZ Top's "TUSH". ZZ Top was and is a Great band, but it was painful watchin Lambert's feeble attempts with the mike. What was Billy Gibbons thinking.
Guess I need to get over it and just accept it ain't Country they're making these days but music, and it sales....just not to me.
Theres a few new jacks that I like, but for the most part, I only listen to music from the Garth Brooks era and older. I love old cowboy music like Red Steagall, Bob Wills, Gene Autry, Tex Ritter and so on.
