Message and search delays

I can only post a message once every 60 seconds and perform a query once every 30 seconds.



Why is that?

Just some of the "features" of the forum software. I am guessing it is set with those limits to "ease" the load on the server until it is upgraded to a dual CPU machine. Just a guess... ... . I mean 30 seconds to resubmit a search shouldn't be a big deal..... I am guessing thats the reason.

Bad apples....

Its because people known as script kiddies get programs that perform deniel of service attacks against boards in one of two ways:



1. Having a script repeatedly post to a forum in rapid succession, flooding the system with postings until the hard drive fills up... crashing the system. The old system and the new protect against this.



2. Having a scripting hit the search several times in rapid succession, effectively bringing the system to its knees. The new system protects against this, the old did not.

Thanks, Ken. It's amazing what we have to do to put up with brats. Too bad you can't change the parameters for members. I'd like to think it's unlikely that we would try any DoS attacks.
