Pulled pan to service transmission last night and found a metal piece in the bottom of pan. It measures about . 5" x . 25" x @1/16 thick. One side is jagged where it has broken off of ..... what?

Here's my 1st attempt at posting a picture:

It looks like part of the retainer for the boost valve spring.

Ddid the trans start acting up? Conerter slipping?

looks like a tooth off a clutch pack separator plate (the metal part between the friction material disks.

Similar to a wet clutch in a motorcycle? Are the teeth on the separator plates angled, or flat? The broken/rough side looks to be on a radius, not a flat.

Not slipping or acting up..... just servicing the fluid/ filter/ bands prior to a Baja adventure (leaving wed... . I hope... )

Where is the boost valve spring located? Can I see it without removing VB?

Drop the VB and look for it. It is up on top.

Do you know the history of this trans?

Maybe it broke before you owned it, and the retainer was fixed before you, and they couldn't find that piece. It just vibrated to the pan.

If you can find a trans shop open then can remove one from a spare VB.

It's a full DTT transmission. The prior owner had it done. I serviced it last year and found no problems/ metal. I'll pull the VB and confirm. If it is the retainer, I'll probably have to wait until monday to find an open transmission shop. Can I make my own out of flat stock, and bend it into shape??

Just got the VB out, and it was the clip that broke. I removed the valve to inspect, and found some galling. Can I clean that up enough to work properly, or do I need a new Boost Valve as well?

Thanks for helping so quickly!

New clip is finished. I used a bit thicker metal than the stock piece. I'm going to clean up the burrs on the valve, and put her back together. If this works it will be the best "McGuyver" fix that I've done in awhile.
