First; 2005 dodge ram 2500, 5. 9 litre diesel, stock truck minor cosmetic upgrades with basic routine maintenance.
i took off my transmission pan and noticed what appears to be a large snap ring. probably the size of a softball. there are no holes in the end that a traditional snap ring has. After a quick google search i leaned towards it being the "overdrive snap ring. " I have posted pictures below. they are about 1/16th thick and 1/8 wide.
if it is the OD snap ring, anyone know how much it is to replace it myself or have someone else do it? also, is there any back issues that explain this problem?
I changed the fluid and filter because my transmission is acting up. Most likely it is the governor pressure switch and or solenoid. I will change both to be sure. I have already changed out the transmission output shaft speed sensor for 21 bucks. the transmission is staying in first gear for 15 minutes till the fluid warms up then shifting to second and starting out in second too. I do get a trouble code which is the GPS (governor pressure sensor).
So basically, on top of my hunt for the quick transmission flush and inspection i was thrown an added bonus of this so called snap ring stuck on the danny magnet.
any help is appreciated. Thanks. TDR fanatic do it yourselfer.
