When I get under my 99 2WD and look below the lower A-arm right where the bottom of the shocks bolt, there is a thin metal tab that protrudes down below the A-arm. Looks like its just waiting to catch something or get bent. My 2001 Neon also has these things. What the heck is their purpose??

Those things are called flag nuts. The tab keeps them from turning when the bolt they are on is tightened. Beats trying to put a wrench on a standard nut. Look where they are. Then try to imagine trying to get a normal nut in there and started on the bolt.

Thanks Joe. I didn't look from directly below them which is where I probably should have. I noticed them when changing my oil for the first time and thought I had something wrong. Thanks.

I changed out my shocks a while back and them things came in pretty handy. I scratched my head for a while trying to figure out how I was going to get a wrench on them, then I figured out what them tabs were for.
