MyA/T2's are VERY nervous pulling 40' enclosed g-neck race trailer, about 10k I have over 20k on the tires, down to 10/32 rear/ 11/32 front... rotated often, could be rears are lower after kid took truck to prom>>>>>:-laf Prolly burned em up some for me.....

If Lawdog's experience was like mine, I'm betting his answer will involve (my interpretation) tread squirm and trailer sway. Lets see what he reports... .....

I just did about 400 miles with trailer, about 16,000 Lb combined, last 50 in and first 50 out would be decent motorcycle roads, hills and curves, no white knuckles with the M/S2 on the rear.

Sorry haven't been here in a while. I towed the trailer for 2 years with the stock LTX a/s and like GCroyle reported, handled great. The A/T2 has the squirmy feeling. I have ran them over 10,000 miles towing my trailer which is about 9500-10,000 lbs prob 2500-3000 on the pin. Tires definantly chopped up. WORSE on rear???? They are the stock 265/70R17E... ... ...

My truck got smacked recently so I am now going thru with the Dually Conversion, and looking at the M/S2... Just gonna hurt getting 7 tires...

Just turned 35K on my Michelin AT2's. They are holding up GREAT! Still not half worn out and continue to give great service. Overall, they have been the best tire on the truck out of the stock BFG's, Toyo AT's and now the Michelins. They are quiet, get good off road traction and handle snow, water and ice pretty well. No issues pulling my toy hauler with them. I keep them aired up to 75Lb's most of the time also. Scotty

Thanks for the update, Scotty. My Toyo AT are almost wore out at 18k, though I DID unkowingly kepp them overinflated for the first 12k miles. I was running 65psi all the way around, just like I did with the AT2's, but for the 285/75/15 E, it was too much pressure and the center of all 4 tires wore WAY more quickly then the inside and outside edges. I am confident that I could get 20, maybe even 25k miles out of them, like I did the AT2's, if I kept them properly inflated. That being said, I do like the way the Michelin AT2 handled more then the Toyo AT. Plus, I liked beingable to set the pressure at 65psi and forget about it. While I DO like the looks of the larger diameter Toyo, I may well switch back to the LTX/AT2. I SO wish that Michelin would make them in a 285/75/17 E !!!!

Same here. I wished their 285/70 was an E rated tire. I would put that on next. I liked the look of the bigger Toyo's but even keeping my Toyo's properly inflated, they were gone at 35K. I mean completely worthless. I still might try the 285/70's Michelin AT2's next time. Just a hang up I have, I like to see the Letter E on my sidewalls. Overall, the Michelins are some excellent tires and have really worked excellent for me. Scotty

Totally agree !!! I have thopught wboput the AT2 285/75/17 D, but just can't bring myself to do the deed.

I am now running the Toyos at 55 front and 50 rear. I am prety sure that this is affecting gas mileage for the worse, as well as handling on them... so while I have been farily happy with the Toyo, I was VERY happy with the AT2, and the wear/mileage seems to be about the same for me. Like I said, probaly back to the AT2's for me after I wear these out completely. If Toyo honors the prorated treadwear warranty, then I might run another size or type of Toyo first, then back to the AT2.

I didn't know they had a 285/75/17 for the AT2! That would be a nice tire. I like the skinny tires, but I don't want a wide one. Seems to hurt the handling in snow and rain to some extent. Nothing horrible, but the skinny little 265's get up the road pretty nice. Scotty

OOOPS. . I meant 285/70/17 D !!! Here is a link to the Michelin page for these tires... open the "SPECS" tab and you will see a lisitng for all AT@ tire sizes/ratings

Got it. I checked right after you said that. Thats fine though. I would be fine with the 285/70's. More than enough tire for my needs. Scotty

Just looking to get some recent feedback on the A/T2 tire, especially in relation to the mileage. I know seafish had pretty low miles on his, BUT I hope that is an exception since he admits he never gets long life on any tire. I have a 2001 that has had ONLY Michelin A/S since new, 235K, on the 4th set with about 60K per set on average. The only thing that worries me about the A/T2 tires is the more aggressive tread getting less mileage and a few reports of tread squirm. I am only considering Michelin tires, so that leaves either the M/S2 or A/T2 as the only choices in LT265/75/R15 E rated tires since my old friend the A/S is no longer available. In any event I think I could use a bit better traction anyway. I run around 9000 pounds on the truck all the time and tow a small utility trailer that has about 2000 pounds regularly, probably 80% highway and 20%gravel and 2-track roads. A set of four = $998 after $60 rebate at Discount Tire, for that price I would hope to get 60K+++ out of a set!

SHG. I am closing in on 40K with my AT2's. They are still holding up great! I am up in NH right now, and they are handling the snow real well right now! Those tires are the best ones yet. I see mine going about 60K or better. Good luck. Scotty

I have had the AT2s for about 60000 and I just ordered a new set yesterday. I could have gotten more, but got careless with the rotation and my alignment went out so now I have two in pretty bad shape and two that could go further. Cannot beat the ride and traction on the highway IMO and mud/snow traction is still decent.

I managed to get ~62k out of my set of AT2s. I should have taken a picture. I put the MS2 on it because it has a tread life warr. I really liked the AT2. It did work better in snow. The MS2 is a good compromise between the AT2 and AS(the oem tire). I never did notice any squirm in the AT2. I think I only had ~60k on the AS model. They did not work in the snow at all with 60k on them!

John

So sounds like you guys are getting around 60K on the AT2's, that is about what I have been getting on the AS's. Tire prices have gone up a lot since I last bought AS's in 2007, like about 25% so I was hoping to hear the 60K+ reports for the dollars spent. I might go with the MS2's, BUT to be honest those don't really look any more aggressive than the AS's, but they must be? The 70K warranty would be good though!

I hear that, I just paid to get winched out of the snow with my AS's with 45K, $350, after hours, mileage, two guys, etc, etc. From the time they showed up till we were driving out, less than 45 minutes, easy winch out on a dirt road, BUT I didn't want to spend Friday night in the truck in sub 20 degree temperatures!

Yeah, they are great. I am up in NH right now, and with all the snow they have been getting my tires do really well. I still need to use 4wd, but with my truck being so light in the rear it needs the front to get rolling. I can't imagine any other tire doing as well in so many different aspects. Well worth the money. Should get through to next winter or better with these. I don't like starting a Winter on worn tires, so that will probably trigger me to change them up by next Winter more than likely. Scotty

Wow... I am JEALOUS!!! 45k to 60k on the AT2's ???

I mean, I know that driving style has alot to do with tire wear, but I DON"t drive that aggressively, though I do daily drive about a mile of unpaved road.

In any case, I may well go back to the AT2, as I am getting even LESS on my Toyo Open Country. They are wore down to 2/32" at less then 18k miles. though to be fair I did run them overinflated for half their life.

It is important to keep the Toyos at 50psi in the back and 55psi in the front when unloaded, or they siumply wear down the middle and not evenly across. That was another thing NICE about the mIchelins, set em and forget em at 65psi!!

I have said before, and I'll say it again, I only wish Michelin would make the AT2 in a 285/75/17 E rated tired, intsead of the D in that particular size, which I like on my truck. I am sure they would then be the ONLY tire that I would buy.

Clark,I wonder if the twisty nature of Hwy 1 is contributing to the wear? Michelin could sell all the 285-75-17 E rated tires they could manufacture. Yokohama could do the same.
