I recently bought a new set of Michelin M/S to replace the A/Ss my truck came with. I was hoping to get a little more traction if I were to go off the pavement. . the A/S would get stuck on wet grass!! Seems the the straighline acceleration traction of the M/S really really sucks a fat one!! My A/Ss on the rear were BALD just barely any tread left and they would get me off of an intersection alot better than the M/S.

The M/S seems to turn and stop just fine but they just don't go! Anyone else expierience this? I could WOT in 3rd with the A/S if i wanted to... can't even think about it now. Just seems odd to me

I am very happy with the Michelin LTX M/S's that I currently have on my truck. They wear like nails and I have found them to be great in all applications except mud. Last winter I was very suprised how well they performed in the snow. This winter they are a little older and are not so great in the snow anymore, but they earned every dollar of their keep.

What tire pressure are you running? I run 60 front 50 rear in the summer (non-towing) and in the winter I aired them down to 55/40 (non-towing). Just a thought.

My 98 came with M/S on it and I was forced to remove them come winter because they were UNSAFE. I could barely get the truck roling if it was icy and hill starts were a joke. My 01. 5 came with the A/S which suprisingly gave as good traction with less road noise but they came off last year before the snow fell(one day before). I still have them in the attic of the garage with a couple k on them but my BFG at's are so much better that I can not justify putting the michelins back on.

Geeze Ted... . Down there by your knee is a short lever that you are supposed to pull one notch towards the seat in no traction situations.

I lived close to Bozeman for 10 years and got around good with the Michelin M/S's. Only time I had to use that lever was when I went in town where they did't take care of the streets.

Yeah Jim that little lever comes in handy. I was living in Jackson, WY when I had those M/S's. I actually had to use a snow cat(was grooming for a living at the time) to rescue the truck once when it cut loose sideways parking one night at work. It was a couple inches for a pole on the drivers side. Just another event that lead to the dimize of the michelins. I replaced them with studed cooper CTD 235s and they would bite into anything they touched.

I will say those michelins wore like iron but I over-all liked the A/S better

I should also say that the Michelin LTX M/S that we had on an explorer were great and griped like a dream.

I guess I am just a tire snob but when replacing tires I like to go with options that make life easier and there are a lot of tires that perform better than the M/S on our trucks
