Michelin XPS - no warranty?

I just put my new Michelin XPS rib tires on our 5er today. They were pricey - special order through Costco - $168 ea. When I brought in the old rims to get them mounted, the tire guy told me that since they were going to be run on a trailer, Michelin would not warranty them at all. Has anyone else run into this situation?

I have run into uninformed tire installers who made similar statements but I don't think he is correct. That decision will normally be made by management at your tire retailer. SAM's Club has replaced damaged light truck tires used on travel trailers for me. I think Michelin considers the XPS Rib an optional trailer tire. In summary, I wouldn't worry about the comment. You are not likely to damage a Michelin XPS Rib and if you do, if you are a good customer of COSTCO, I'd bet they'll warranty it for you.

The Michelin website recommends the XPS Rib for commercial trailer service, so I don't see how a retailer could contend that you're using the tire for something other than its intended purpose.



Edit: Oh, by the way, when we had the XPS Ribs installed on our 5th wheel, Discount Tire made no mention of voiding any warranties.

If you have a problem with your XPS, your first point of contact should be Costco. They generally are very good with 'customer satisfaction' even if there is no warranty.

If I arrived at a tire retailer & they told me the manufacturer would not warranty the tires, I'd be heading out the door. In spite of all of the problems I've had with Goodyear, I was pleasantly surprised last year when they replaced a trailer tire that was two years old & suffering a knot on the side.

Costco installed four XPS Michelins for use on my trailer. They told me to bring them in if there is a problem and yes, they are recommended for trailer us on the Michelin website. By the way there have been no problems such as I had with Goodyears.
