Trip to Indiana in April

Great Lakes Dragaway DHRA schedule Union Grove WI

me and another diesel shop are talking about having a diesel day or weekend in the charlotte area or near by. my question to everyone is what would you rather have dyno and sled pulls or drag racing? its not very likely to find a place to have all three, so what would be best? how many people would be intrested in coming? sompthing like this probably wouldnt happen until 2006 but i wouild like to get some ideas for sompthing like this so i can start saving for it. any input or ideas are welcome. i think sompthing like this would also help the gltdr spark some intrest with the locals. i was thinking of maybe having a dyno and sled pull at the eaton county fair grounds and having vendors, a charity auction, and other booths to go with the deal. well lets have your best thoughts on the idea, thanks a bunch for the help.

come on guys, i know theres got to be more intrest in sompthing like this than none. some ideas would help just so i could start getting some ideas of cost and scheduling.

thanks matt

I'd recommend starting small and working your way up. Thunder in Muncie started as a pretty small get together at Dave's Diesel in Muncie - I'd guess there were about 40 of us in attendance. Start with a small event with a show and shine with small awards, possibly a dyno (with fairly low cost runs), some food, some give aways (vendors will usually step up to the plate and I can help get you in contact with some), possibly some space for people to wrench on their trucks (and get help from those in attendance), and plenty of room to BS :) . The TDR will help with sending out mailings to all of the TDR members in your area if you plan far enough out. The key I believe is to start small and let it grow over time. Since I'm just down the road from you I'd be glad to help out some. The first GLTDR event was help at my house with 5 or 6 of us wrenching on our trucks, sitting around chatting, and an arranged dinner.

I would be in for something like that for sure, but in the Michigan area there doesn't seem to be any interest. We have tried a couple dyno days and we are currently starting a truck pulling class and there is just not that much interest? We may get 10 to 20 trucks max at these events. I need to convince my wife to move to Ohio or Indiana.

yes that was kinda the idea, i figured that the fair grounds would be a cheap and good spot to do it. not looking to have thousands of people just enough to help make it worth the effort. there is a mobile dyno in battle creek thats reasonably priced and i think i know where to get a sled for cheap, the dirt is already there for the track and plenty of room for vendors. it would be probably next year so theres time to plan, just wanted to see how people in the area would take to the idea. maybe one of these days we could meet up and throw some ideas out. the reason for the questions on the events is a friend knows a guy with a drag strip that would be willing to help, but that would give up pulls, see what i mean just wondering what people like more.

ok my big question is what kind of events would most people be intrested in? drag racing and dyno, or sled pullind and dyno? another diesel shop near by might have a good spot to do it where there could be drag racing during the day, sled pulling later in the afternoon and probably a place to have a dyno. im going to talk to him this week and talk to some various places about some locations. but i think that the odds of having all 3 are slim to none. i am thinking about trying sompthing late summer or next year, depending how things work out and how much i make with my little hobby shop.

well the local dodge dealership said they are in! i am getting ahold of the eaton county fair grounds to see about thier inrest to hold the event there. i talked to a mobile dyno today and said that 40-50 trucks wouldnt be hard to get to put on the dyno, think thats a overshoot or not? thanks for the input. keep it coming! Oo. maybe this will be able to happen this year!!!!

be a big drive for you bighammer!! might have to give out a award for farthest traveled with that kinda trip :-laf i wish i would have known you lived up that way, i worked from muskegon to pentwater all fall and stayed up in scottville, only a short drive from there. takes a special person to live up that far, nothin to do. theres a chance later this month or next month we might be coming to travers city to visit some friends, maybe we can stop at a bar and shoot the breeze for a bit. :D

p. s. any snow up there, could bring the sled for some fun

well i just got off the phone with livernois, and to get thier dynojet up here they get $1,500 and unlimited runs with 2 people to run the dyno. i am calling battle creek today and think i can get a better deal through them. anyone have any good ideas on a sled? i know of one but its kinda old, still works so i might be able to get it cheap, but i would rather have a decent one. think there would be enough intrest to get 30-40 trucks on the dyno? back to the phone for a while more :-laf

better news yet, i talked to a local farmer that can get a cople of pigs to roast. gotta work out the fine print but i think i might try and get this going soon!! Oo. i am going to try and have a donation auction for local charitys, and benifit programs so i would like to see a good intrest in this, not only for us but for everyone. it would definitly be cool to see some big time pullers there( this means EEP and Haisley).

if your a vendor and and are intrested give me a call anytime at 517-652-3266

thanks guys and you better get stuff togather because theres a good number of powerstrokes coming that want top honors, gotta keep that from happening.

i know theres a campground right at the fair grounds and should be some near by. i still have to talk to the fair board about it but camping is a definite, somewhere anyway. this week i should have all the info for this. the site and events anyways. this is why i like the fair grounds, its right off i-69, theres 3 hotels within a mile or two, and theres a good deal to do at night ( bars bowling movies ect). so does that sound like a good plan to shoot for, have a dyno, sled pull, hog roast, and vendors? be sorta small but it should be fun!

and now i am gong to get married, she just said yes this morning Oo.

thanks for the input
