word on the Turbo
Okay, got the new turbocharger on and it's a SWEETHEART! Had to work through another problem (related to cold air) and break it in, and last night and today got to really push it. Well I had to lift some last night as it was wanting to go over 50#. I swapped out the boost port orifice screw (several supplied) to a smaller one and got the wastegate to open quicker, now 42-44 is tops.
I'm beginning to think that I don't need anything bigger than this one. It's a 35/40 hybrid with a 14cm wastegated housing, balanced super fine. I'm putting out less smoke, running more boost, EGT's are NOT an issue, and it sounds good too. More power is being developed in the engine room!
If I ease into it, the clutch will hold under 40psi. I may run over to the dyno if they're open tomorrow. I don't think it'll slip on the rollers. I'm no expert, but I 'spect I'm ALL OVER 450/1000 now.
The highest I've gotten the EGT is around 1400--where I used to push it past 1500--a whole lot faster.
The roads have gotten really short again and my brakes are being severely tested. Tires aren't too happy either. It's going to be SUPER sweet when I get the 13" FE in there.
I'm really impressed with the unit. I'll bring it to the meeting if it's not under 30 degrees all day long.
Oh yeah, it's a Dodgezilla! Tim told me to go ahead and spread the word. Now the other mods we're going to do to it are still CLASSIFIED.
Looks like I'm going to have two of these units for myself.
