I still have the klunk in my front end, and it's getting worse (more often) I am thinking of taking it to Midas or one of the similar shops that does free estimates to see if they can find out what it is. One major problem is I hate to wait and evrytime I drive by Midas all the bays are full, and parking lot is jammed, Any comments or suggestions?

good sign!

Well, if the place is always busy, full bays and parking lot, they must doing good work. It might be worth a wait.

I find Midas and chain tire shops great places for free diagnostics and estimates. Then take it home and do the work yourself.

Dogue,

Becareful with Midas. They are infamous for the "if you come in for brakes you need shocks" bit. A few years ago the FBI did a nation wide sting on them for this problem.

Of course this is not true of ALL of the shops, just keep it in mind.

Good luck.

Scott

Thanks for the heads up Scott, but I'm just going for the FREE estimate. No one can find where the Klunk is coming from, and before I just start replacing stuff, I'm going to give a few of these shops a shot at it. I'll (well, my Brother-in Law) do the work @ home.

Oh and I do need shocks I bought those crappy Edlebrock's LOL

Might be stupid of me to ask but have you checked your track bar?

A couple of months after I got my Ram I started noticing a pop in the front end every once in a while. Took it to my local Mom & Pop owned shop that gets most of my family's business and they thought it was my front axle end U-joints. Ok $225 later (after my dad took it for 3 days) and a couple of days later I got it back and it still popped. Got it looked at again and they said it was probably my track bar but to wait till it got worse to replace. Ok like 2 months later "POP" on just about every turn I started getting quotes nothing less than $200. Being short on cash then I couldn't have it done, but I'm seriously thinking of doing it now that I'm back on my feet $$$ wise.

I would agree with got smoke?.

At 2500 came into my buddy's shop, he couldnt find the clunk in the front end. So I took it for a ride, first it needed to be driven hard enought to make the front end lift on take off and brake hard enough on stopping to make the front end compress. After talking to the guy he later added that ya it was on take off and stopping and he does drive it hard. So with that it clunked. It sounded like the trackbar to me.

Did the steering wheel wiggle test , need two people. The tie rod was wiggling around badly.

Originally my buddy did it like a car, got under neath and tugged on things, cant find it that way.

do yourself a favor and check you shock bushings at the top. I had the same "klunk" and could never find it. it was my shock grommet- it was never pushed thru the hole at the top and it would bang everytime I went over a bump but appeared to be very tight on inspection- pulled my hair out trying to find it

Just an opinion

Look for my post in accessories or search on track bar. $185 for lifetime MOOG. Read on cause there's a link to an on line that has the same moog part for I think $138. Sounds like the track bar but it could be the shocks - gotta check em both. Have somone crank the steering wheel while you look at the track bar joint. If it wiggles even a little bit - that's the culpert.
