I just got a century 125 GL wire feed welder. It's a little on the small side, but it was a steal so I couldn't pass it up. Question is, do any of you guys know if I can convert this welder to use gas instead of flux core wire? Also, what does it usually cost to do that?

Thanks

Matt

I'm no expert here, but if it has hose connections on it I would say it can use gas. If not, I would contact the manufacturer or a rep. and ask the question. You might also do a goggle search or go to the manufacturers webs site if they have one. Hope this helps.

Yes, I believe you can convert that model of welder to MIG. The Century 125GS appears to be the same unit set up for argon use. I'm not sure of the cost of the MIG kit for that welder, but I just bought one for my Lincoln SP100, and it retails for about $90-$100. I just got lucky and bought that kit on clearance at my local farm store for $49.

I still need to buy the cylinder, and cost will depend on size. I've seen 20/40/60/80 cubic foot models, with prices ranging from $80 on up, plus the cost to fill with Argon gas ($50+). I'll also need a cart to haul this all around on.

Good luck with your welder! :)

yep... but the flux core does have times when it is better [like welding outside in the wind on dirty metal]

i have a millermatic 130 that is pushing 10 years old now that works pretty well using the flux core wire, it is just messy [mine being old doesn't have the fine voltage control, just 4 settings] and can burn through thinner metal...

i want to get me a tig machine for the cleaner, finer stuff :D:D
