O. k. ,,,,,,,,,, the bug has bit me,,,,,,,,,,, I am considering selling my 97 12valve. Club Cab, 5speed (fifth ger fixed before it broke), 4x4 8ft bed Driftwood with mist grey interior. The truck has been timmed, running 31 lbs of boost and has ahd a spring kit installed. all the engine work was done by Jeff Garmon. I instaled autometer boost and EGT gauges. The truck is an SLT truck with everything but leather, keyless and trip computer. The truck had a hide-a-way goose neck hitch in it when i bought it. truck has 132273 miles on it. I just put four new 255/85/r16lt BFG mud terrains on it. No Cat, Muffler or slincer ring

DONET GET ME WRONG,,,,,,,,,, I LOVE MY TRUCK

I am strongly considering buying an 04,,,,,,,,, even worse,,,, a HEMI.

If I sell my truck i'll probally buy a 2500 with the new Cummins 600 but I am mopar through and through and the is a big part of me that wants a hemi

I know i'll get half the fuel milage and only have 2/3 the power but i want a hemi 5speed with 4. 10 gears

Thought i'd post this on the 12valve fourm to see if anybody was intrested in my truck.

I turned down $17,000 a month agoe because i didnt want to buy a new truck,,,,,,,,,, i ended up selling that guy a new truck so he's out of the market.

HELP ME

either somebody from way out of town come buy my truck soe i wont have to look at it everyday or talk me out of buying a new truck

20 views and nobody has even tried to talk me out of buying a hemi,,,,,,,,,,,,,, much less wanted the truck,,,,,,,,,,

Wow, if you got offered $17k for you truck I would have taken it. It certainly would not bring that much up this way.

If you want to buy a Hemi, go ahead. You will unload it for a new Cummins in a few months anyway :)

Ditto on what Cooker said. I can't even imagine owning a gasser again. Half the mileage(when not towing, while towing forget about mileage in a gasser), half the power, half the realibility, an 1/8 the life span, dollars to HP ratio is ludicris with a gasser, and the only smoke you get from a gasser = problems, LOL. :)

I was getting "the bug" to get a new truck as well...

wanted a stronger, newer 24 valve. That was until I began doing some mods to my ole 1997 12 valver. Now, after less than a $1000, its feels like a total different truck. After getting my new DTT 47RE in (being built now) I expect it will again feel like a new truck!

My point is... the things i wanted in a new CTD: (more power, better drivability, improved interior) , I realize now I can get in my trusty 97 with much less investment vs an 04 325/600.

In the near future I see bigger injectors, delivery valves, and turbo upgrade, maybe some custom leather seats, T-rex suspension and Rickson 19. 5's. Bunch of $$, but this 97 will be alot more truck than any $35k 2004!

I'm amazed at how much cheaper trucks are on the east coast. Something like that would be sold before the papers hit the streets here in Reno. I chased want ads on and off for about a year before I found my 97. All the 4x4's were either worn out or way over priced (and usually both!)

Good luck on your decision. Must be great to have a job where you have access to all of the new mopar iron. I think that might be my dream job.

Sounds like you made all the points needed to NOT buy the Hemi. You sound just like a Blue ford boy, or a yuppie getting a Harley. All you are really after is the name, and not the product.

Get the 04 600, and go buy yourself a couple of Hemi badges and replace the Cummins ones. That'll make people wonder.

The only complaint I have about my truck is, I cant go through drive throughs without cutting it off. If I got a new one I could go through drive throughs. I thought about it some and realized, I dont need those drive throughs anyway :) I would like to get a backup truck though. I think everyone needs at least 2 vehicles that are payed for. I had a chance to buy a 98 12 valve auto for 12K last year and should have done it. The transmission was slipping, but I might get one down the road.

Wouldn't guarantee it. The truck I had before buying the 6. 9L, was pretty quiet. I still had to shut it off at several different fast food joints because they still couldn't hear over it.

this is kinda the response i figured i'd get,,,,,,,,

it will probally pass,,,,,,,, You have to understand,,, I am a small town dealer and because i know how picky people can be when they spend $40,000 Plus on a Truck, nine times out of ten I have to order it or locate it from another dealer,,,,,,,,,,,, this is the first time that i have had a 3/4 ton sit on the lot longer than a week,,,,,,, keep in mind that normaly they unload 2 or 3 at a time but they are all normally gone in 3 to 5 days,,,,,,, selling them faster than the factory can build them,,,,,,,,,, has it good and bad points

I have got a brand new mopar performance 426 HEMI crate motor sitting in a big blu box in the middle of my service dept,,,, so of one hand,, i've already got a hemi,,,, a real hemi at that,,, on the other I think it might just be me being half childish in they fact that there is something new and i want it,,,,,, dont know

I'd probally sell my truck if i got a good offer,,,,,,,,,, but i dont think i'm going to try to sell it,,,,,,,,,, if somebody comes by with the right dollar figure,,,, they can take it home,,,,,,,,,,,,, because when you in the car business everything is for sale at the right price

Trey

For $17 grand they could have had my truck, I would have walked home, and began shopping for a extended cab I wish I had bought in the first place the next day! :-laf

Oh yeah... ... . real trucks burn diesel :p

What sacralage is this!!!!!!

Selling a '97 for a gasser!!! You sould be made to turn in your TDR subscription for just thinking it!

Is the '97 paid for?

Does it do what you want?

Does it have less than 250,000 miles?

If yes ... keep it!

A new truck is cool, but thoes payments are outragious, unless you have enough money saved in cash and the sale of the truck covers the rest so you can have no payment ... then I would concider a new truck (I am personally holding out for a 5500 chassie-cab 4door 4X4).

What ever makes you happy.

Again ",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,"

$17,000

And you turned that down???

Trey, how do you move anything off your lot? I can only get 12,000 Nada and that was giving it an exelent rating leather , blah , blah

Come on guys he's trying to sell his truck and figured he would put it in a Thread instead of the classified. He probably never was offered 17K but he is trying to get some one to offer it to him here. The moderator ought to lock this thread

Speaking of NADA... part of the reason it too me so long to buy my 97 truck is I could never find one priced close to NADA/Edmunds/Kelly. I would say they were easily 20-30% over the prices in those guides. I chased classifieds here in Reno and long distance where my dad lives in Montana for many months and anytime something was priced at book, it was sold within hours. Now I have been out of the market for well over a year, but just from the occasional one I see for sale at the grocery store, it still seems that a diesel 4x4 holds its value well out here.

I guess us westerners are just more attached to our old trucks!

-Vic

I would not be able to bring myself to part with my truck for the amount someone else would be willing to pay.

Used vehicles just do not command good prices when the financing on new ones is so cheap.

At 125,000 miles it is only just broke in anyway.

Cheers!

for the record

O. K. ,,,,,,,,,, for the record,,,,,,,,, I had two used diesels when i bought my truck from a Wholesaler,,,,,,, A 2001 2500 24valve auto Quad, Leather, the whole nine yards,,,,,, and a 96 12valve auto club 8ft that was a loader truck and ran good,,,,but the body wasnt in the best of shape,,,,,,,,,, I had a guy pull on the lot and look at the two used trucks,,,,,,, i wanted a 5speed truck,,,,,,, well he was talking to another salesman,,,,, my truck still had a dealer tag on it so he figured i was just driving it as a demo,, so he so it too him,,,,,,,, i stoped him before he could pull off the lot,,,,,,, and told him the truck wasnt for sale,,,,,,,,,,, then he offered my 17,000 for it (that was kinda in the middle between the price on the 96 and the price on the 01),,,,,,,,,,,,, keep in mind the was the second day i owned the truck i had been searching for for the past year,,,,,,,,, i wasnt going to sell it at any price,,,,,,,,,, i probally should have taken it and found another..... but i didnt,,,,,, then the bombing bug bit,,,,,, then the 01 wheels and new tires,,,,, then gauges and exhaust,,,,,,,,,

I love my truck,,,,,,,,,,,, and over the time that this tread has been posted i am leaning more towards keeping it,,,,,,,,, and i figured that if i posted this thread,,,,,,,, that maybe others people that i have no connection with other that all oif us being Cummins Owners would talk some sense in to me,,,,,,,,,,, which you have done,,,,,,, now if somebody walks in with cash in hand i might send them riding,,,,,,,,,,,,, but i am not laying down in the street trying to get somebody the take it off my hands

Trey

you say you're mopar through and through, and you have a crate 426 HEMI right now? Get a B-Body and drop that 426 in there, then you have a HEMI and a cummins. I looked at the HEMI before I bought my 01. The wife really like the way the 4 doors open on the 3rdgen. I always wanted a HEMI. A freind of mine has a half ton HEMI, it hauls ass, but what got me was the braking on that thing is like nothing i've ever been in. I guess it depends on why you want the HEMI. For drag racing, take the HEMI. For towing take the CUMMINS. That's why I bought the cummins, to tow my race CAR. 451 stroker DUSTER. MOPAR or no car.

Wow 17k for a 97 with mileage on it... wow... But you're right, I wouldn't part with mine either, if ya like it ya like it. Lets see what else... don't buy a gasser and uhhh don't buy a gasser. 426 is a great car engine, not for a truck though, JMHO.
