we are on day two of our trip from connecticut to key largo flordia. we have in the bed of our 2004. 5 2500 is a 2008 lb lance lite slide in camper. behind the truck is a 21 foot baja hammer weighing in at 4000lbs. with the ez on level two we are getting a hand calculated 9. 8-10. 1mpg  this is crusing at 70 mph with cruise control on whenever possible. we are on route 95 where it's genrally flat. truck has 15000miles on it and just changed to synthetic oil before we left. what do you guys think? is this about right or is it horrible milage? btw, i'm running standyne performance formula in every tank. thanks... ... james :D

last year, i took a 3000 pound boat from wyoming to iowa, and got about 15 mpgs. while there, i purchased a slide in camper that was in omaha. with just the camper on, i got about 14. 5. On the return trip to wyoming, with BOTH the camper and the boat, milage was about 11. 5. ???!!!

Your both right in the ballpark. It's easy to forget that these are HEAVY trucks, and when you load that slide in camper on it's like throwing out the parachute. Then you drop the anchor for good measure!! (the trailer) James, you are running at about 13K pounds, pulling it at 70 MPH, with an auto and a 4X4. You have injectors, an Edge, and various other goodies designed to make that hulk even more responsive with a load on. So should you be happy?? Next time just before you get in, give her a kiss on the hood and say "thank you Cummins"!! Sarge

Towed one 1000 pound horse in my 3 horse steel gooesneck trailer with oversize dressing room, gear, its a extra tall(total weight about 8600lbs)from Athens Ga. up I-85 to Clemson. Lots of up and down rolling interstate last Saturday. Reset overhead. At 60 it settled in to 15. 1 At 68/70 mph it dropped to 12. 1 truck has 15k on it and just did the "A" word 15w40 and their 75w90 in both diffs on Thursday. Tobbcogrower what GEARING is your truck?2WD or 4Wd?

towing my haulmark steel four place snowmobile trailer or our 30 foot dutchman. I pray for 12 on a good day 11 is my av. I have seen 13 though. just as stated you play you pay. you make hp it takes fuel.

We haul a big heavy 11' 6" Lance slide-in camper with a slide out room and are slightly over the truck's GVWR, but don't tow anything. The weight combined with the frontal area lowers the fuel mileage related to the driving speed. We average 10-12 MPG and driving 65-70 MPH on the interstates. We can get off the interstates, and drive on the back roads that we prefer (see the "real America") at speeds around 55 MPH, the fuel mileage will go as high as 14 MPG.

We get about 13. 5 mpg doin 70mph towing a 40' flatbed gooseneck with two full size trucks on it. One's a 1985 big block suburban w/44's and the others a 1983 3/4 ton big block chevy pick- up w/39. 5's on it. Not sure about total wieght but I imagine it's up around 20,000 lbs.

that is about right, remember you probably never really work that motor, and it takes about 20K to get it broke in, I would have to say you are doing good under the circumstances, it will gradually increease over the next 10k miles.

Also, remember that over 63 MPH you greatly multiply the direct wind resistance on these trucks, if I do 55-60 I am over 25 with my 3500 short box empty, and with 9-12k on the back I am over 16 at same speed, watch the speed for fuel mileage.....
