I would recommend against buying a K&N filter for your truck unless you don't plan to keep it forever. A search on K&N around here will reveal some interesting results. And read this test.
And I can promise you there is no air intake system in the world that will give your truck a 3-4 mpg gain. Ask whoever told you that to see a fuel log.
rbattelle is right, run from that place as fast as you can! There are MPG gains by allowing more air to flow thru the engine but if all it took was 300. 00 to get that much we couldn't stock them fast enough. You can get 0. 5-1. 5 MPG if you get a good feee flowing air intake system and exhaust system, air in and air out equals MPG gains etc. Check the AFE Pro Guard 7 intake systems and the MBRP performance replacement muffler systems out, that should get you what you're after and protect the engine from dirt getting thru the air filter too!
