Well , I decided to see what kind of mileage I could get if I really tried. On the last fillup I started driving like there was an egg on the pedal , pulling away from lights slow and steady. Making sure I keep the rpm's below 2k on the hiway. It's been 5 days now and 250 miles and it's KILLING me :( Last night I couldn't stand it anymore and just had to stand on it :D . The trip comp. was reading 18. 5 give or take a little. Now it's down to 17. 5  . I don't know if I'll last the whole tank or not, it's hard. Btw my truck only has 5700 miles on it so far and I know it will just keep getting better. Also my daily drive is about 10 miles hiway and 10 or so miles stop an go red lights. Sometimes I can make the lights green in the morning sometimes not. Wish me luck in making it through the next half tank.

My job is in L. A. and the LAX Airport is 22 miles away but its freeway miles and of course its on the 405 freeway which crosses over the 101 freeway which was voted just this week as the #1 worst freeway interchange in the USA. Now this whole drive to work is stop and go all 22 miles and Im wondering what kind of milage I am going to get.

That sure would suck. Sounds like you almost need a helicopter.

How about mileage AND fun. Last week I took a 500 mile trip of mixed mountain roads and freeway driving. I got 21. 8 mpg and that includes a few quick runs up to 100mph. But, then that isn't unusual. I get about 22mpg no matter how I drive it.

I would say fun. . I tried to drive good on a tank but I failed shortly after starting. This truck just craves speed for some reason. . Try explaining that to a cop :(

Or a moto so you can split lanes the whole way and get to use the carpool and . 50 cent for 10 hour parking downtown. I bought a dirtbike and made it street legal just for that reason when I lived in Oakland and commuted into SF. No bridge toll was so cool. A bit cold some mornings though.

Oh yah. And my vote is for Fun. My 03 HO seems to be at about 17 mpg with the 4:10's and 6speed. I have a Airraid Quik Fit and 315's. I get sucked into the cat and mouse game too easily. ;)

Milage

I'l make this short & sweet, {comparatively to what will come later}. I'll do a complete follow up in a create thread VERY soon. I have completely changed all fluids over to Amsoil & use their fuel additives. My averages the last two tank full have been 24. 9 & 25. 2 respectively. Both tanks were over 700mi. , about 400 were on the highway & the rest were around town, stop & go, & I live in northern NH where it is quite mountainous. I do maintain 55mph on the highway, which is actually very easy to do. with that kind of mileage I woun't be stupid enough to screw that average up & drive faster. It doesn't take much longer to get there. You just have to learn to plan ahead a little more. Oo. Oo. :D :D :

Oh & for those nonbelievers I keep a complete record of all this. I have all the documentation & facts & figures.

So how do you want me to prove it to you? Here is a fact, just because you can't does not mean others don't. May be I just have figured out something the rest of you haven't.

Go For Fun...

I go for fun:

Whatever vehicle I drive, I usually get 1 to 3 mpg less than my wife. More than once I've tried to see what fuel mileage I would get taking it easy. Darn Chevy, Ford and even Dodge trucks will pull up beside me an want to play. What's a guy to do?:D

BTW, I get 14. 8 mpg avg on my 02 3500 and we get 18. 4 mpg on our 03.

That is damn near impossible in CA. Most of the freeways are posted at 65mph. Down here in SoCal, if you drive 65 you WILL be run over - no question about it!

I too

am a non-believer. On both of mine I average about 15mpg empty highway driving. Both are 5 speed manuals with 3. 55 rear 2 wheel drive. If I manage to drive for a full tank at 55mph, I might get 17mpg max.

Actually, with a trailer the law here in CA is 55. I usually drive 55-60 while towing and no one has ran over me yet, although I do get passed a LOT. Of course in heavy traffic you're lucky to even be doing 55... but that's OK because I've found with the wide enclosed car hauler behind me, MPG drops significantly for every MPH over 55. Like someone said earlier. . just plan ahead. My last trip was over 500 miles each way and I figured if I would have gone 65 instead of 55-60 I would have arrived about an hour earlier, but it would have cost me about $15 more each way and I the only thing I would have been doing with that hour is sleeping. I guess that's not all that much $, but it paid for pizza that night. :)

Thats what happened to me :D I tried but the truck just wants to go faster, like it's doing it all on it's own. I did talk to my neighbor ( a state trooper ) the other day about my goal and he said the same thing. He like to drive fastand misses the power of his old truck , he has a V6 Dakota now.

I'm almost done this tank and according to the overhead comp. it down to 16. 8 :D ( heavy foot ) I'll be filling it up before the end of the week and doing the math to see if the comp is correct.
